Mrs. Ireland Passes Away

Mrs. J. C. Ireland died at the Ireland home southeast of Cassville, Thursday, March 13, following a lingering illness of many weeks of a complication of troubles. She was 66 years, 2 months and 13 days old.

Mary Ellen Cox was born January 31, 1853, about four miles southeast of Cassville. She was a daughter of the late James Cox. She was married to Christopher Ireland, Dec. 7, 1873. To them seven children were born, all of whom except two daughters, an infant and Fannie Comstock, are living. The children are: Mrs. Cora Berkley of Exeter, Laura Hodges of Marionville, Dollie Vanzandt of Exeter, Florella Owings of near Cassville and Rev. Will Ireland of Exeter.

She professed faith in Christ and united with the Baptist church at the old Horner church when she was 14 years old and lived a faithful member of the church until death. At the time of her death she was a member of the Washburn Prairie Baptist church. The funeral was held Friday afternoon, conducted by Rev. W.R. Prier, her pastor, and her body laid to rest in the Horner cemetery.

She leaves husband, five children, two brothers, D. L. and James Cox, and nine grandchildren. Before she passed away she called her children to her bedside and expressed her joy of the fact that all were members of the church and prepared for the happy meeting in the future.

The death of Mrs. Ireland is another instance of the loss of a good Christian mother who will be missed not only in her own family circle but in the community where she had lived so long. [Death certificate and stone have Jan. 1, 1853 as her birth date.
