A Big Day at Skelton Home

Fifty years ago Dec 28, 1866, two happy hearts were made beat as one and for all that time they have continued to beat in unison braving all the battles of life with their combination of goodness and excellency of character never forfeiting the right but standing out in a solid tie for love, good feeling and fellowship. They have made a a great success of life by raising an excellent family of children who have grown to man and womanhood and all are at the head of families, having made honorable and upright citizens in the communities where they live. We have been speaking of Mr. and Mrs. J. N. Skelton of Eagle Rock, two of Barry County's highly respected citizens, who number now with the older class of our citizens an we believe they have resided in this county all their lives.

On Dec 28, 1916, all their children except Mrs. Elden Bare of Eureka Springs, Ark., Mrs. Alice Stryker of Blue Springs, Kan., and Mrs. Edna Cullup of Roswell, N. M., met at the Skelton home and it was a big day for the Skelton family, with so many of the big girls and boys and all their ones present, with many other relatives and neighbors, who are always ready to pay honor to Dock Skelton and his good wife. They spread a big dinner and all brought their appetites with them and they did justice to the splendid dinner. Rev. Prier invoked the blessings of Diety upon all present and kindly remembered the blessings for the household. The children presented their parents with with useful presents, and they in turn presented each of their children with $5. All returned to their homes well pleased with the respect they had shown their parents which would be the delight of every good son and daughter.

[repeated] She took sick suddenly Tuesday evening. She had the best of care and all was done for her that could be. She left a mother and three sisters to mourn her passing, who were all at her bedside when the unwelcome visitor death, called and bade her depart. Miss Anna will be missed in this community as she was loved by all who knew her. She was 22 years and 8 months old at the time of her passing.
