| Text | Alexander McGee James, one of the old and substantial citizens of Barry County, passed away at his home south of Cassville five miles, Wednesday, Jan 18, 1911, aged 81 years, 1 month, and 21 days.
A. M. James, familiarly called "Doc" James, was born Nov 28, 1829 in Blount County, Tennessee, moved to Marion county, Arkansas, in 1871, and to Barry County, MO in 1877 where he has since made his home, except a few months at a time. Mr. James was married in Tennessee in 1855. To this union eleven children were born, nine boys and two girls lived to be grown, a son, William James, died in 1894. The remainder of the children are living. Mrs. James died in 1886. In 1890 he was married to Nancy Irvin who died Aug 23, 1906. Mr. James married Caroline Frost, January 1908. He leaves a wife, nine children, thirty-four grand-children and seven great grand-children. Four of the grandson were pall bearers at the funeral. Funeral services were held Thursday at the Washburn Prairie Church and interment made at the cemetery there. Years ago Mr. James united with Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He was a citizen of high standing and a man of much force of character and strong personality, a valuable citizen in the community in which he lived. For several years his age and health has not permitted him to lead an active life, but in this younger days he was a citizen looked to for counsel and was one the progressive farmers of this county. |
