Headline Sherman Swindle Drowned
Text Sherman Swindle, a son of Mr. and Mrs. John Swindle of near Wheaton, was drowned, April 20, 1916, while trying to cross Buffalo Creek near his home at Dear, Newton County, Ark.

Sherman had lived at Deer for about four years. On the morning of April 20 he started to cross the Buffalo river on horseback and was drowned in the stream which was high. The horse was found the same day but Sherman's body was not found until the eighth day. He body was interred April 27.

He was born May 18, 1877. He had served three years in the Philippines and had traveled around the world. He leaves his father, mother, three brothers and five sisters. A brother, Ogle, is at Gerlach, Nev., Archie is at Davis, Calif., a sister, Mrs. M. S. Carksen is at San Diego, and another, Mrs. Edward Stillman is at Riverside, Calif. The other brothers and sisters are yet at home.

The father and mother and members of the family are thankful to the good people of this home community for their efforts in trying to locate the body of their beloved son and brother.
