Headline Celebrated Golden Wedding Anniversary
Text Judge and Mrs. Melvin A. Galloway celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary at their home in Jenkins City, Tuesday, October 16, in company with a number of their children, grandchildren and other relatives, neighbors and friends.

An over half century ago Mr. and Mrs. Galloway took upon themselves the responsibility of building a home in this county. They nobly faced the problems and the great hardships of that period of the county's history which in 1861 was just beginning to bring so much of death, sorrow and desolation to then simple home life of this sparsely settled county. To both these old people who have almost if not quite reached three score and ten, it was a most happy day when they could celebrate their Golden Wedding Anniversary enjoying the blessing of health and the affection and devoting of their nine children and live over again in review the years which have been crowned with life's greatest blessings. Few couples live to celebrate their Golden Wedding Anniversary, still fewer celebrate it with an unbroken family. All Mr. and Mrs. Galloway's children are living and all had planned to be present to make this the happiest day of their parent's lives but sickness and unavoidable circumstances made it impossible for three of the nine children to be present. Those who could not be present were: W. F. Galloway of Corpus Christi, Tex., Charles of Lamar and Mrs. J. H. Thomas of Cassville.

Mr. Galloway is a native of Barry County and was born in 1841. With the exception of three years which was spent in the Civil War and a short residence at Marionville when a daughter was in school his life was been spent in this county. Mrs. Galloway was born in Stone County in 1843 where she lived until her marriage in 1861. Their children are: W. F. of Corpus Christi, Tex, A. L. of Cassville, Mrs. J. H. Thomas of Cassville, Mrs. Gillie Short of Marionville, Zack of Aurora, Charles of Lamar, George and Jess of Jenkins and Mrs. H. A. Gardener of Monett.

During the Civil War, Mr. Galloway joined the Union Army and served more than three years, in Company E., of the First Arkansas Calvary. In 1878 he was elected a judge of the county court from the eastern district and served two years. At that time Judge M. B. Sparkman of Washburn Prairie was presiding Judge and Judge Wm. Fly was Judge form the western district. They are both living and were both invited to attend Judge Galloway's Golden Wedding Anniversary but were unable to do so on account of feeble health.
Many handsome presents were received from the children, grandchildren and a large number of friends present. The day was most a pleasant one and the bountiful dinner greatly enjoyed. The honor and kind consideration shows these excellent old people was appreciated more than words could express and the memory of that day will often times gladden their hearts during the years to come.
