Headline A Webb City Man Shot
Text Grover Elgin of Webb City was shot and dangerously wounded in Seligman about eight o'clock Sunday evening.

According to the deposition given by Elgin to Prosecuting Attorney Talbert at Seligman Monday, Elgin was shot by William C. Skaggs, commonly known as Slim Skaggs. Elgin's deposition further states that he was led off through the friendly association of Skaggs to the northern part of town where Skaggs took from his person the sum of $10 and immediately after this act he was shot by Skaggs, the bullet taking effect just above the heart and lodging somewhere in his body. No other person was near the scene.

Elgin's condition is serious and he is not expected to live. He had been in Seligman only two or three days prior to the shooting. He is a young man about the age of Twenty.

Skaggs made his disappearance Monday morning and has not been captured. Some time ago he deserted his service in the United States Army and has been dodging the federal officers ever since. His relatives and friends in Seligman say that his disappearence is due to this cause.

The deed is a bad one and the guilty party, if captured, should received the due process of the law.
