Headline | KU KLUX SIGNS POSTED HERE Town Covered With Posters Warning All Law Violators to Change Their Ways |
Text | Citizens of Wheaton awoke Sunday morning to find the town well covered with posters warning all gamblers, bootleggers, home breakers and others that law violations
must cease. It is the general consensus of opinion that an organization exists in Wheaton or the surrounding vicinity, but the identity of the person or persons who posted the signs seem to be a mystery. The night watch says that he didn't see a soul on the streets after the usual hours and it is generally believed that they were posted after he had gone off watch at five o'clock. The same kind of bills was posted at Fairview and Stark City about the same time. The posting of the bills and the probable results of the organization, should it exist in this community, has been the chief topic of conversation about town for the past few days. Comment, both favorable and adverse can be heard at most any time. Quite a number who declare they are not Knights of the Ku Klux Klan, express themselves very favorably toward the organization. There are others who conscientiously condemn it and a few who perhaps object to it because it may interfere with some of their actions. Below we produce the bill in a form similar to that of the poster. The Knights of The Ku Klux Klan Are in your midst TAKE NOTICE Bootleggers, Gamblers, Home-Breakers, and all Law Violators, White, and Black, are Hereby Warned That Law Violations Must Cease. Our Girls and Boys Must Be Protected. |
