Headline Celebrates 94th Birthday
Text One hundred one persons assembled at the home of "Uncle" Wallace Smith near Shell Knob, July 18, and assisted him in the celebration of his 94th birthday. A fine dinner was set in honor of the occasion and neighbors and friends assembled to pay their respect to "Uncle Wallace" who is one of this county's highly esteemed citizens.

Ray Cotrell of Shell Knob and Rev. Gregg made talks and paid high tributes to the useful life which Mr. Smith has lived.

Wallace Smith was born July 18, 1822, at Mt Vernon, Knox County, Ohio. There were nine children in his father's family. Mr. Smith is the father of 18 children, ten sons and 8 daughters, all of who died in infancy. He was married the second time in 1878 to Eliza Ann Worth.

In 1858, he moved from Ohio to Indiana where he lived about seven years. From Indiana he moved to Kansas and lived at different places in that state for several years, later coming to Missouri. In 1874 he located in the eastern part of this county and has since resided there.

Mr. Smith was a blacksmith and was a wagon maker in his younger days. In 1851 he united with the U. B. Church and later became a licensed minister. He is enjoying a happy old age and appreciates very much the honor paid him on his 94th birthday.
