Headline Shot and Killed
Text A. G. Jarrett shot and killed John Chambers, a policeman at Aurora, on Thursday night Sept. 19th. This unfortunate trouble seems to have grown out of a trivial matter. The men met on the street, had a few words when Jarrett commenced shooting, resulting in Chamber's death. Marshall Conner being near by, immediately arrested Jarrett and placed him in jail. The next morning he was taken to the county jail at Mt. Vernon. Jarrett is the youngest son of John Jarrett a prominent mill owner at Aurora, and a prominent citizen. Chambers is said to have been a good citizen and left a wife and five children to mourn his death.
