Text The friends and neighbors of Mr. Keith remembered him in a most befitting manner March 28th. It being his forty-sixth birthday. The surprise was complete. He was away from home until noon when he returned to find his home filled with happy friends and the tables groaning under their weight of good things, such as only farmers' wives and daughters know how to prepare. After he and his friends had partaken of the dinner of which there was enough left to feed a small army, they retired to chat and listen to music, both vocal and instrumental, until the sun and clock warned them it was time to depart for their respective home, which they did, wishing him many more birthdays as happy as the one just passed. A careful estimate showed that at least sixty-four persons were present, which shows the esteem and respect in which he is held by his neighbors. Mr. Keith was born in Monroe County, Ind. From there he moved Kansas, where he lived four years and then to Barry County in 1888.
