Research Note: He was the son of Clida and Wilma L. (DeCocq) Cantwell. On January 19, 1963 he was united in marriage to Lana Watson. Preceding him in death were his parents; daughter-in-law, Lori Cantwell; one sister, Bette Mitchell and a brother-in-law, LeRoy Miller. Bob grew up and received his education in Cassville, graduating from Cassville High School in 1959. After high school he helped build Beaver Dam. In June of 1962 he received Christ as his Savior. He was a member of Corinth Baptist Church and was ordained as a deacon on August 24, 1969 along with Ralph Paul and Ronnie Banks. He also served as music director in the church. Most of his life was spent in Cassville except for a few years in Kansas City, where he was superintendent at Marley Construction making cooling towers for refineries. The rest of his life was spent in Cassville as a self-employed carpenter, building homes throughout southwest Missouri. It was published in the Cassville Republican Apr. 10, 1958 - In part it reads: LIFELONG WASHBURN RESIDENT DIED FRIDAY - Charles Ray Cargile, 67 a lifelong resident of Washburn community died at his home near Washburn early Friday morning. Born on July 13, 1890 at Washburn, he had been engaged in he mercantile business there except for a few years that he was employed by the Frisco railroad in Kansas City. In July 1948, he was united in marriage to Ruth Bothne of Washburn and they made their home on the farm northwest of Washburn where he passed away. Surviving in addition to his wife are two brothers, Clint Cargile of Susanville, Calif., and Floy Cargile of Washburn; one sister, Mrs. Cora Williams of Washburn. |

At the age of seven, Jerry moved with his family to Washburn, where he received his education and graduated from Southwest High School. In high school, "Puddy", as known by his family and friends, ran track and field, training in the hollows around their home. On August 13, 1979, he served in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged on October 22, 1982. For several years he resided in California, Washington and Iowa before returning to Washburn and began working for Seven Valley Construction, putting in water and sewer pipelines. Painting was his favorite pastime and he was an avid artist. Research Note: His father was James Franklin (Frank) Clark and his mother was Lena (Alexander) Clark. Both are buried in Washburn Prairie Cemetery near their sons Alfred and Oral. He lived the early years of his life in Eastern Barry County in the Shell Knob and Eagle Rock Communities. He married Ruby Silver Bell Page on May 29, 1930. Alfred and Ruby had a daughter, Crystal Bell, born May 15, 1931. That marriage ended in either a divorce or an annulment. Ruby later married Virgil Broan and Crystal Bell grew up using the name "Broan". After that marriage ended, Alfred (Al) went back to school. He graduated from Washburn High School in the Class of 1934. While finishing high school, he boarded with Mrs. Amah Foster who lived on a farm directly across the road to the west from Washburn Prairie Cemetery. In addition to working on Mrs. Foster's farm, Al also mowed the Cemetery. He married Winnie Lawrence on October 19, 1934. Winnie is also buried in Washburn Prairie Cemetery. Winnie and Alfred had 3 sons: Alfred Marion (Fred) Clark (1935), Theodore Lawrence (Ted) Clark (1937), and Frank Leon Clark 1938. The family lived in the Washburn area, Jenkins, and Springfield. During this time, Alfred taught school part of one year at Jenkins, and then became a truck driver, which became his major occupation. In 1941, the family returned to Washburn, and Winnie and Al separated. He went to California to work in a defense plant. They were divorced October 28, 1946. Alfred married Flora Marcum. They had two children: Ronnie was born September 19, 1945 (one source indicates place of birth as Reno, Nevada, but another source indicates Webb City, MO) and Linda who was born in 1955. They lived in Galena, Kansas at the time. They lived in the Joplin area where Al continued driving a truck and served as fire chief for the City of Galena, Kansas. Al and Flora were later divorced. Frank Clark's notes: - His father was Benjamen Clark and his mother was Rebecca Jane Clanton. Both are buried at Viney Cemetery near Golden, MO. Their children were: Phillip Edward (1877), Sylvania (1880), Albert (1883),James Franklin (1885), Henry (1886), Cora (1888), Everett (1890), Elmer Carl (1893), Ernest Glen "Happy" (1895), and Ora Dale (1900). Frank married Lena Alexander. Lena's father was George Alexander and her mother was Mary Rebecca (Ledgerwood) Alexander. Both are buried in Painter Cemetery. Frank was a farmer and lived most of his life in the area of the Eagle Rock and Shell Knob Communities in Barry County, MO. Around 1931, Frank, Lena and their sons Alfred Lewis and Oral B. Clark moved to the Washburn Community. After Lena's death, Frank remarried twice. In the 1940 census, he was married to a woman with the first name of Zette, and their address was Exeter, MO. According to the memory of grandson, Frank Leon Clark, by 1942, Frank was married to a woman named Nora. Her name was Clark prior to marrying James Franklin. At that time, Frank and Nora lived in the Gunter Community just a short distance from Butterfield, MO. By 1945, Frank and Nora moved to a small farm near Neosho, MO. During this time, Frank and Nora did not own a car nor did they drive at this time of their life. Frank's grandchildren (Alfred Marion Clark, Theodore Lawrence Clark, and Frank Leon Clark) remember riding a bus from Washburn to both Butterfield and later Neosho, and granddaddy (Frank) would meet them at the bus station with his wagon pulled by a team of horses. He remained in the CCC until he enlisted in the U.S. Army on July 18, 1942. He served in the South Pacific. He died of Malaria on April 17, 1944 in the South Pacific, probably New Guinea. Three sons were born to Alfred and Winnie: Alfred Marion (Fred) October 25, 1935, Theodore Lawrence (Ted) April 23, 1937, and Frank Leon, October 2, 1938. Winnie graduated from Seligman High School in 1927. She also has a diploma indicating that she had earlier graduated from Washburn High School, but according to her, Washburn's school was only a two year program. Thus, she boarded with a family in Seligman (alternating time with a sister), in order to complete her high school education. Immediately, upon high school graduation, she passed the exam to become a teacher. Beginning in 1927, she alternated teaching in schools in Barry County and attending Southwest Missouri Teachers College in Springfield, in addition to starting her family. Among the places she taught were Trent's Creek, Jenkins, Exeter, Washburn, Butterfield, and Seligman. During this time, she finished her education at Springfield, MO. In 1949, Winnie and her 3 sons left the Barry County area. She continued to teach at other schools in the State of Missouri until 1975. She taught for a total of 39 years. She completed a Master's Degree in Education at Central Missouri State College in Warrensburg, MO. Research Note: He was the son of Byron and Opal (Hilton) Conley. On July 8, 1986 he was united in marriage to Janice Hendrix. Preceding him in death were his parents; one brother, Gene Conley and one sister, Joyce Jones. Danny grew up and received his education in Mansfield, Missouri where he graduated from high school. Thirty-five years ago he moved from Mansfield to Seligman to make his home. For several years he was employed at Stone Container in Rogers, Arkansas in safety and quality control. He later worked at Georges for a while and was a part time mail carrier at Seligman. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Cassville, Missouri. Ola married David Mack Covey on Sept. 14, 1968 in Gray Co., TX. - PAMPA - Ola Gregory Covey, 99, died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2006. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors Colonial Chapel with John Curry officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Washburn Prairie Cemetery in Washburn, MO. Mrs. Covey worked for Mr. Charlie Thut for 18 years at the Gray County Courthouse, which was at that time in Lefors. She was the last living person who worked at the courthouse in Lefors. Cody worked as a heavy equipment operator and various other construction jobs, but his passion was modifying anything with a motor. Cody did not always make the best life decisions but when life got tough Cody turned to the word of God. We find comfort knowing that he was saved on August 6, 1995 in Vacation Bible School at Rock Springs Baptist Church.
