Tom Walden (son of Henry P.) told story that "J.B. along with his brother and family made the trip from Tennessee to Keetsville, Missouri (now Washburn) in a wagon drawn by an ox team and a pony upon which some of the children rode. The men walked and carried their guns and hunted along the way. They would camp and the men would go to every shooting match they heard of. J.B. was an expert shot and would stick the point of his knife into the paper and bet $1 that he could cut or drive it out a distance of 60 yards with his muzzle loading rifle." J.
