This cemetery was found by Ted Roller and Jack Fly following up on information given to them by
Mrs. Betty Jo Thomas.
The Leroy Stringer Cemetery is located in a field on the north side of Hwy. 60 approximately one-half mile west of the junction with County Road Z. This location would be near Monett. The Stringer's were one of the early pioneer families to settle in Barry County arriving in the 1840's. Leroy P. Stringer married Juliana Whittington August 13, 1846 in Barry County. Update from Jack Fly, Nov. 30, 2017 The Stringer cemetery has been completely destroyed. All signs of the cemetery are now gone. The tree that the headstones had been leaned against has been removed and no signs of the remaining headstones could be located. Another one of Barry county's cemeteries destroyed and evidently nothing can be done about it. |
