George Golubski of Pierce City, MO, was the informant. - From a newspaper clipping with photo on ancestry.com: Sixty years ago a young Polish couple was married at the parish church in their native Poland. But soon unhappy days came upon them. Under Russian domination, the Polish people were dispossessed of their property and their language. They were not permitted to teach their native tongue in their schools. A scout came to America in search of anew home for his people. In his travels he visited the Ozarks and gathered specimens of the fruits, vegetables and grain crops to show to his friends in Poland. Among the articles which he took back with him was a jar of sorghum molasses. The scout gave a glowing report of the beauties of the Ozarks. As his friends came upon the jar of molasses, he told what it was, how it was grown and how it was made. They sampled the sweetening at a dinner, and according to the story, it was one of the things which decided them in favor of America. Among those who came and settled at the new Polish colony in Barry county in 1883 were Anton and Julia Golubski. The settlement first was called Bricefield, later was renamed Pulaskifield for General Pulaski, general who helped Amreica in the fight for independence. Mr. and Mrs. Golubski have lived on one farm since their arrival in the country. There they reared a family of seven: sons Frank, John, Joe and George; daughters Mrs. Mary Shaski Mrs. Julia Zebert, and Mrs. Rosie O'Dwyer. They adopted the language of their new country, but also clung proudly to their native tongue, which had been denied them in the homeland. Children, grandchildren, and friend joined in the all day celebration held on the 60th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Golubski. A religious ceremony was held at the home in the forenoon. At noon came the anniversary dinner. She was a great cook, seamstress, and florist. She loved traveling. Mrs. Golbuski went on three cruises, went to St. Louis many times, and also traveled with ladies in the church to see Pope John Paul II in Chicago. Mrs. Golubski was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Gary; two brothers-in-law, Phillip Golubski and Jack McCaffrey; and a great-grandchild, Olivia. He served as a Road Commissioner for the Pioneer Road District. Bob and Nancy enjoyed visiting their Grand Lake property where he spent many hours fishing. He was known for his CB handle "Yokomo". The name was taken from a well-known camp near Pioneer, MO. Bob was a member of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Pulaskifield, MO. He retired from the National Guard after serving 26 years. Research Note: According to his death certificate he was widowed and a farmer. He was age 76 years old when he died. He was listed as a son of Joe Groskowski, born Germany. The cause of death was Bright's Disease. J. J. Moloski of Bricefield, MO was the informant. - Cassville Democrat, October 13, 1917 - Joe R. Groszkeski, of this place, died Oct. 6, age 82 years of old age. He was one of the county's earliest Polish settlers and had been the sexton of the Bricefield Catholic church for 23 years. He is survived by a stepson, George Guzowski. Funeral services were conducted Sunday by Rev. A. A. Sena and the remains were laid to rest in the cemetery here. Mr. Groskeski was a veteran of two wars, Austrian in 1866 and the France Prussian. He was an excellent citizen and had many friends who will regret to learn of his death. John Meloski, John Golubski and Father Albert were in Cassville, Wednesday in the probate court probating his will. His property consisting of a farm of forty acres and some personal property is left to his stepson.
