Research Note: July 25, 1912, Thursday, Cassville Republican - Della L. Oakley, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. F. M. Oakley, died at the home of her sister, Mrs. John Elkins, one-half mile west of town, Wednesday, July 17. Death was due to a cancerous growth. Miss Della L. Oakley was born in Illinois, July 29, 1872. She was reared to early womanhood in that state. In early life she was very studious and she acquired a character cultured and refined that made her life one full of noble ideals and usefulness. She was a woman talented in the literary field of labor. For the past eleven years she was connected with the Fort Scott Banner, a religious paper, and edited the children's department. She is survived by two brothers and two sisters. They are: Oscar Oakley of Greenville, Ill., M. E. Oakley of Butterfield, Mrs. J. Boyd of Butterfield and Mrs. John Elkins of Cassville. Rev. J. Hibbs of Fort Scott, Kans., conducted the funeral services at the Sparks School house Saturday. The remains were laid to rest in the Sparks Cemetery. - Daughter of Francis M. Oakley and Harriet L. Hazlett both born KY. She was a type setter employed at Ft. Scott, KS. J. G. Elkins of Cassville, MO was the informant on the death certificate. Photo

It reads she was born Oct. 1, 1841 and not Oct. 30, 1841 as the paper reads. It also has she was born in Kentucky. The death place given on the certificate reads McDonald Twp., Barry Co., MO. The cause of death was old age. Mr. Cates was given as her father and her mother's name was unknown to the informant J. S. Riddle, Cassville, MO, at Route 2. Death Certificate Number: 93-b - Cassville Democrat, January 27, 1917 - Mrs. Katharine Patton died Jan. 23, 1917, at the home of her daughter Mrs. Siegle Riddle of near Cross Hollows, of paralysis, age 75 years, 3 months and 21 days. She was born in Hillsboro, Ill, Oct. 30, 1841 and married the late Z. C. Patton at the age of 20 years. She leaves one daughter Mrs. Siegle Riddle, and was the stepmother of Lite and Wm. Patton of near Cross Hollows, Frank Patton of Joplin and Douglas Patton of Arkansas, and Mrs. Bert Lee of Illinois. Research Note: His death certificate places his burial in Sparks. Probably no headstone though. He was also a Justice of the Peace in Barry Co., and was the father of Light W. Patton and several other Patton children in Barry Co. The family moved from Illinois around 1880 to Barry. His first wife Elender Jane Lowry was born 1833 in TN, died Oct. 14, 1862 in Hamilton Co., IL. From this marriage there were Samuel, Light W., Rachel, Stephen Douglas, William C., Fanny C. and Lewis Franklin. He then married Catherine Cates May 14, 1868, Washington Co., IL, and she was born Oct. 1, 1841 in Hamilton Co., IL and died Jan. 22, 1917 in Barry Co., MO, buried in Fairview Cemetery - per death certificate. From this marriage there were Thomas, Charles, Grace, John, Mabel F., Susan Belle (Patton) Riddle, Mary Ella, and an infant son. Most all of these children moved to Barry Co. from IL. Stan McKay entered Zerlie Casie Patton from a death certificate with the same dates as Elmer Thorn entered. He entered that Samuel Patton was his father and that Mary Kuykendall was his mother. Marjorie received her education in Purdy, Missouri, where she graduated from high school. Along with being a homemaker, she helped run the dairy farm and for several years was secretary of the Sparks Cemetery Association. See in 1837, to which two children were born, Hannah and George. George Washington Prier then married Mary Polly (Brooks) Burge, widow of Archibald Burge, on August 12, 1847, in New London, Henry County, Iowa. The marriage of George and Mary Polly was blessed with four children: John P., Mary Jane, Thomas Allen and Lutishia Merilda. George and Mary Polly were never divorced but George left for Missouri with Mrs. Mary Jane (Freese) Ehrhart, wife of James Ehrhart after the birth of a son, George Prier to George Washington Prier and Mary Jane Freese Ehrhart. George Washington Prier and Mary Jane Freese-Ehrhart had at least seven known children together, but at this time there is no record of a marriage or of a divorce for George Washington Prier. - Obit for Mary Jane: Cassville Republican newspaper, August 18, 1921 - Mary Jane Erwin was born in Pratt county, Ohio, Feb. 11, 1842 and died Aug. 13, 1921 at the home of her son, T. J. Prier, of near Eagle Rock, aged 79 years, 6 months and 2 days. She spent her girlhood days in Ohio but during her early womanhood moved to Barry county where she spent the remainder of her life. After she moved to Missouri she was married to George Prier. To them nine children were born, seven boys and two girls. There are five son, J. T., J. W., A. F., S. A. and W. R. Prier who survive her, also thirty-five grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. While all of the children were comparatively small her husband died and she was left to support the family. All of the boys live in Barry county, except S. A. Prier who lives in Newton county. A few years before her death she was married to Rev. M. W. Erwin who lived only about two years. Since his death she has been living with her sons. - She was divorced from James Ehrhart, Nov. 1866 in Mt. Pleasant, Henry County, Iowa. So far no marriage record has been located for George Washington Prier and Mary Jane (Freese) Ehrhart. - November 2, 1911, Thursday, Cassville Republican - High Point News: S. A. In 1939 she moved to a small farm near Cassville, Missouri. Ruth milked cows and later was employed by Armour Packing Company, where she worked until she retired. She moved to Marshfield, Missouri, in 1994 to be near her children. Memorable events in her life were World War I (when more people died from influenza than were killed in the war,) and when Central announced the end of the war over the rural magneto phone. She always remembered when women got the right to vote in 1920. Ruth was a pianist and Sunday school secretary at Victory Church of God Holiness for 50 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, J.C. Zwahlen; one sister, Ruby Hamblin; and a son-in-law, H. D. Hayes. Cassville Democrat

He leaves a wife and four children. They are Seigle Riddle, Mrs. Joe Rogers and Elva Riddle of Cassville and Mrs. George Russell of Fairview. He also leaves two brothers and one sister. Funeral services were conducted Thursday 21 at the Sparks school house on Flat Creek conducted by Rev. D. H. Truhitte after which his remains were conveyed to the Sparks cemetery and laid to rest to await the resurrection morn. - Card of Thanks - We sincerely wish to thank our many friends and neighbors who so kindly and willing aided our dear father and us during his continued illness and at his death and may God spare them as long as possible from a like sorrow. Her father was the informant. - Cassville Republican, Thursday, March 13, 1919 - Miss Adeline Rittenhouse, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Rittenhouse, east of Gunter Church, committed suicide Saturday evening at the Maxwell rooming house in Monett where she was working by drinking carbonic acid. She was 19 years old. Mrs. Rittenhouse and sons were on the home place northeast of Butterfield while Mr. Rittenhouse and two daughters were living at Monett. The father worked for the Frisco. In addition to keeping house for their father the girls were working during the day at domestic work. She lived only a short time after taking the acid. Photo

He was age 50 years, 8 months and 29 days old when he died, which would make the 1869 date correct. He was a car inspector for the railroad. His father was Reason Rittenhouse, born IN, and his mother was Rebecca Follis, born IN. He was run over by cars and killed instantly. Mrs. H. R. Rittenhouse, Butterfield, MO, was the informant. His wife was Etta Frail. - Cassville Democrat, June 19, 1920 - H. A. Rittenhouse who lives near Butterfield and was working for the Frisco at Monett, as car inspector was killed about 11 o'clock Monday night. He was coupling cars at the time and was struck by cars that were being switched and died in a few minutes. His family lived on their farm near Butterfield. The remains were prepared for interment and shipped to Butterfield. - June 26, 1920, Cassville Democrat - H. A. Rittenhouse while employed as car inspector at the Frisco R. R. yards at Monett, Mo., while on duty was crushed between 2 cars at midnight Monday night, June 14. A leg being cut off and other injuries that caused his death in 15 minutes after the accident. He was 54 years of age. He was well respected and was of a very pleasant disposition. "In the midst of life there is death." The remains were interred at the Sparks Cemetery, June 17. Funeral service were ably conducted by Rev. F. M. Goodnight. We extend our sympathies to the bereaved family. Mrs. Rittenhouse's mother Mrs. Frail and daughters of Lima, Ohio, came on the 18th to be with her daughter. Rev. Rittenhouse of WV, a Presbyterian minister and another brother has been with the family. A sister of Mrs. Rittenhouse of Chicago, has been with her. Photo

Roberds, common assault; continued. - Cassville Republican, Nov. 19, 1936 - Cass M. Roberds, son of James and Hannah Roberds, was born Feb. 5, 1865, and departed this life at his home in Gunter community, Nov. 11, 1936, where he lived the past 37 years. On Dec. 8, 1889, he was united in marriage to Miss Mary A. Roberts. To this union six children were born, two having died in infancy. Four children, with his wife, are left to mourn his passing. They are: Mrs. Clifford Rouse of Cassville; Mrs. Elmo Campbell, of Pittsburg, KS; Aubrey and Bertalene at home. He is also survived by four brothers and four sisters. He was a good neighbor and friend. Funeral services were held at the Fairview church Sunday afternoon, conducted by T. L. Bennett, after which he was laid to rest in the Sparks cemetery. Photo
