BRADLEY, Melvin Aubrey Aug. 11, 1909
Barry Co., MO
Apr. 1, 1988
Springfield,
Greene Co., MO
SSW: Naomi H. - Research Note: On August 11, 1909, a son was born to the family of William Harrison Bradley and Eva Lena (McGlasson) Bradley resident of Barry County, rural Cassville, Missouri. He attended Black School, North of Cassville to receive the education which served him throughout his 78 years 7 months and 21 days before he departed this mortal plane shortly before noon Friday, April 1, 1988 in Springfield, Green County, Missouri. Melvin Aubrey Bradley (known to everyone as "Aubrey") was a lifelong resident of the area except for a period during World War II, when he was employed in Seattle, Washington, by the Port of Embarkation. On June 21, 1933, Aubrey was united in marriage with Miss Naomi Hattie Nickel in the home of Elder Willie Hankins, near Cassville, MO. This devoted and caring wife, companion, and helpmate of nearly 55 years survives and has rendered personal home care during his last months of ill health. To this SW Missouri union, 5 children (2 sons and 3 daughters) were born and all survive. John Bradley, of Aurora, MO; Mark Bradley, of Fort Smith, AR; Beatrice Benson of Republic, MO; Linda Adams of Sarcoxie, MO; Vivian Evans, of Sherman, TX. Though Aubrey has known the sorrow of the death of one of his eight grandchildren; Matthew Adams, he has the love and admiration of the 7 surviving grandchildren; and the special blessing of having 6 Great Grandchildren to enrich his life. He was a farmer, but had also been employed as a trucker by Norris Grain and Feed, of Monett, MO and by George Ray Feed Co., of Cassville. He made many friends on those routes that have lasted a lifetime as he did when he owned his own milk route in the days of the old ten-gallon cans and wet-boxes. Mr. Bradley was preceded in death by both parents; and 2 brothers, Virgil Bradley and Willard Bradley, and sister, Emogene Turkovich. He is survived by 1 brother, Horace Bradley, of Springfield, MO and 2 sisters, Mrs. Glee Williamson and Mrs. Barbara Moore, both residents of Cassville. There are nieces, and nephews and other relatives who are saddened by the departure of this special individual from their earthly family circle. Photo

The sorrowing ones have our heartfelt sympathy. - March 16, 1916, Thursday, Cassville Republican - Prominent Teacher Passes Away: J. T. Brooks, Dies Suddenly of Pneumonia at His Home Friday, March 10. - Jonathan T. Brooks, one of Barry County's old and leading school men died of pneumonia at his home northeast of Cassville 7 1/2 miles, Friday night at 9:10 o'clock, at the age of 62 years. The news of his sickness reached this city only a few hours before the sad news of his death was also received. He was teaching the Sparks School. He attended church in Cassville Sunday and taught Monday of last week. Monday night he took sick with what he thought was la grippe and was not able to teach. Pneumonia soon developed and within three days he passed from time to eternity. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at the Sparks School house and interment made in the cemetery there. The sermon was preached by Eld. G. S. Yarbrough, beautiful and appropriate music was furnished by members from the choir of the Christian Church at Cassville and Butterfield. Both the Cassville Lodge of A. F. and A. M. and the I. O. O. F. were present in a body and each of their funeral ceremonies were used at the grave. Three members from each lodge served as pall bearers. Lodge members were selected who had been teachers. The Funeral was one of the largest county funerals ever held in this part of the county. The day was beautiful and most of all of his close friends and former pupils from nearly every section of the county attended. A number of Masons and Odd fellows from Seligman, Washburn, Exeter, Butterfield and Purdy were also present. The casket was embarked with lovely flowers, beautiful tributes of love and esteem of a beloved and useful citizen. J. T. Brooks was born in Tennessee in 1853. Came to this county with his father's family in 1870 and located near Washburn. He was educated in the Washburn School, at Pierce city and at the Roberts Academy at Pea Ridge, Ark. He gave the best years of his life to the profession of teaching, having taught in many country schools and in a number of the town schools, among them being several years as assistant principal at Cassville. He had served as county school commissioner and had been a leader in the educational work in his day. He was twice married, his first wife being Miss Maggie Roller. To them three children were born, all living. They are Mrs. Maud Carney of near McDowell, Mrs. Myrl Dummit of Webb City and Mrs. James Goddard of Corsicana. His first wife died when the children were quite small. He remarried, to his second wife being Miss Elsie Baldwin of Seligman. To them one daughter was born, Mrs. Gladys Buzzetti of New Ulm, Minn. He leaves also one brother, John Brooks of Joplin and four sisters, Mrs. Agnes Kelley of Tarkio, Mo., Mrs. Mary Hodge of Washburn, Mrs. Eliza Oakley of Afton, Okla., and Mrs. Martha Kelley of Joplin. In the passing of Prof. J. T. Brooks the county loses an honored and useful citizen and a Christian gentlemen. - Cassville Republican, Thursday, Sept. 28, 1893 - Washburn Items: Miss Alee Roller is at Cassville, helping care for her sister, Mrs. J. Research Note: Son of Mike Cahalan and Carla Land (not her maiden name). Everybody has a story, Brian's was one with many unfair chapters. He was diagnosed at the early age of 20 as a paranoid schizophrenia. He suffered many trials and tribulations through the years his walk here on earth was not with easy steps. Struggles we will never understand but through it all his kindness, compassion, faith and love for his family were never lost. He was a gentle soul. Brian loved to sing and play his guitar. "Amazing Grace" was his favorite; he loved to express his love for God to any listening ear and was always full of laughter. He had a contagious laugh that could fill a room and he never let yesterdays be forgotten. He was a member of First Baptist Church at Purdy. Brian was preceded in death by one sister, Bridgette, a very loving grandpa, Vincent Cahalan and so many more amazing people. Fohn Funeral Home
