Research Note: Wife of George Riley Brown buried at Oak Ridge Cemetery. George R. Brown, age 20, married Nettie E. Bush, age 20, on Dec. 24, 1905 in Barry Co., MO. Daughter of Allen Reeves Bush and Perlina Flaherty. - August 7, 1909, Saturday, Cassville Democrat - Mrs. Riley Brown, died Wednesday morning, Aug. 11, 1909, at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Allan R. Bush, 5 miles northeast of town of typhoid fever and blood poison, age 23 years. She left a husband, two children, parents, brothers, and sisters to mourn her death. The remains were laid to rest that evening in the Quaker Cemetery. Tis sad, to give our loved ones up, but a beckon from the great beyond, cannot be resisted, because of the great promises for eternal happiness and bliss that exists there. All her relatives can meet her again - get ready for that happy meeting - where they will be no separation. - August 17, 1909, Thursday, Cassville Republican - Oak Ridge News: Mrs. Fanny Wright and son and Mr. Corn and wife of Arkansas left for their homes Saturday. He said that George Bayless and Jack Anderson were in the same hospital and getting along very well. Roy wrote that he thought that would get to come back home before very long. - Cassville Republican, Thursday, March 27, 1919 - Al Bush went to Nevada the latter part of last week and brought his brother, Charles, home from the state asylum where he had been for a few months for treatment. He seems to have been greatly benefited by the treatment received. - Cassville Republican, Thursday, June 26, 1919 - Oak Ridge: The parents of Roscoe Wallace, Jess Wisely and Harry Bush have received word that they have landed in the United States. - Cassville Democrat, May 8, 1920 - A. R. Bush received a message from Mrs. James Bush of Denver, CO, informing him of the death of her husband and his brother one day last week. Research Note: Allen R. Bush married Perlina Flaherty on Aug. 4, 1874 in Barry Co., MO. Daughter of James Flaherty born VA and Mary Ann Hemmet/Hammit. Harry Bush of Cassville, MO was the informant on the death certificate. - November 1937 - At the age of 84 years, Mrs. Paulina Bush, widow of the late Al Bush, passed away Sunday night Nov. 21, at her home where the family had lived for many years, northeast of Cassville four and one-half miles. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the home of her son, Harry Bush. The services were conducted by Rev. C. E. Henderson of Cassville. The W. D. Koon undertakers were in charge of the burial. Burial was in the Quaker Cemetery by the side of the grave of her husband. Surviving of her immediate family are her three sons, Estel, Harry, and Roy all of whom live in this community. Mrs. Bush was born in West Virginia in 1883. Her maiden name was Flaherty. She was on of the pioneer residents of the Quaker Community and had many friends who held her in high esteem. Mr. Bush died last July. - August 31, 1907, Saturday, Cassville Democrat - Bob Flaherty came over from Sarcoxie, Tuesday, to visit his mother, Mrs. Love, who is very sick at her daughters, Mrs. Allen R. Bush, northeast of this city. - April 20, 1916, Thursday, Cassville Republican - Brother and Sister Meet After 60 Years - George W. Hammit of Bristol, Virginia, arrived in this city, Saturday morning to visit his only sister, Mrs. Mary Flaherty who lives with her daughter, Mrs. Al Bush, northeast of this city, five miles. They had not seen each other for sixty years. Through the assistance of Postmaster, A. L. Galloway, this brother and sister were brought together after a lapse of more than a half of a century. Several weeks ago Mr. Galloway received a letter of inquiry from Mr. Hammit. He promptly answered the letter, telling him that Mrs. Flaherty was still living and that her home was near Cassville. Numerous letters have since followed and Saturday Mr. Hammit came in. Mr. Galloway drove him to the Bush home. Research Note: He was the son of Kelly and Lenora (Greaser) Byron. Subsequently graduating high school he enrolled in New Mexico State University where he graduated with a degree in chemical engineering. On June 10, 1967, he was united in marriage to Alice Miller in Borger, Texas. He worked for Phillips Petroleum for many years until his retirement in 1997. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his son, Shawn Byron on December 20, 2013, and one sister, Betty Yarnelle. No services are scheduled at this time. Research Note: According to his death certificate, he was a son of Thomas and Winfred Elizabeth (Cornell) Cooper. William H. Cooper, age 29, married Mattie Cooper, age 27, on Nov. 21, 1878 in Miami Co., KS. Mattie died in 1927 and is buried at Thayer Cemetery, Thayer, Neosho Co., KS. His death certificate reads that he was buried in Oak Ridge Cemetery, and his obit reads that he was buried in Quaker. - Cassville Republican, February 8, 1912 - Obit 1 - Suburban News: W. H. Cooper died at his home 5 1/2 miles northeast of Cassville, Friday morning at 4 o'clock after being sick a large portion of the time the last 3 or 4 years. Mr. Cooper was a painter by trade and this county loses a highly respected citizen. Mr. Cooper leaves a wife, and four children to mourn his death, two sons, James and Paul, and two daughters, Mrs. M. Perkins and a daughter in Kansas. All the children were present. The funeral services were conducted by Bro. Crouch Sunday after which the remains were laid to rest in Quaker Cemetery. The family have our sympathy. - Obit 2. W. H. Cooper, east of Cassville died Friday morning of consumption after a lingering illness of many months. He was a painter and followed his trade about Cassville for a number of years. He was a skilled workman and a good citizen. He leaves a widow and four children. His body was buried at the Quaker Cemetery Saturday. - February 15, 1912, Thursday, Cassville Republican - Oak Ridge News: Mrs. Frank Elrod of Edgerton, Kan., came in Saturday in answer to a telegram telling her of the dangerous illness of her step-father, W. H. Cooper. He was dead when she got here. - October 5, 1911, Thursday, Cassville Republican - Oak Ridge News: Mrs. W. H. Cooper was called to Kansas City, Saturday, Sept. 23, to the funeral of her grandson, Clarence Morely, a son of Mrs. Bertie Elrod. He was about 21 years old. His father lived near Cross Hollows when he was small. His death was due to appendicitis. He never rallied after the operation. - October 19, 1911, Thursday, Cassville Republican - Oak Ridge News: Mrs. W. H. Cooper, who went to Kansas City three weeks ago to attend her grandson's funeral visited her brother, I. O. Crouch and Minerva Meneme Waggoner. - He first married Eliza Ann Hayward, died 1893, buried at Deeds Cemetery, Sullivan Co., MO. He married Florence Arletta Dickson on Sept. 25, 1894 in Nebraska. She is buried in Deeds Cemetery, Sullivan Co., MO. - Cassville Republican, Thursday, Feb. 13, 1913 - Oak Ridge News: Died at his home a mile northwest of Oak Ridge school house at 4 o'clock Saturday evening, Rev. W. H. Crouch of heart disease, age nearly 62 years. He came here form Oklahoma about 2 years ago and bought a part of the Mills place east of Spout Spring. He had been a minister for several years but owing to his disease he had of late years not preached so much. He lost his house and all its contents about the 20th of November 1912 and his worrying is thought to have aggravated the disease and shortened his life. Research Note: Wife of E. H. Griffith. Daughter of Barney House born Germany and Ellen Logan born Ireland. Mrs. M. P. Bradley of Cassville, MO was the informant on the death certificate. - Cassville Democrat, July 1924 - Another mother having completed a long life an this mundane sphere has evidently passed to a better land, where that sweet rest and happiness is in store for all that do His will. Her religious life commenced in childhood and she was true to it's convictions through life. Mrs. Mary Ellen Griffith was born near Pittsburg, Penn., March 22, 1844. At the age of 11 years her parents Mr. and Mrs. Barney House moved to Burlington, Iowa, where she united with the Missionary Baptist Church at the age of 11 years. At the age of 17 years she and Samuel John Ward were married and eight children were born of this union, three survive the mother who are Mrs. Mattie Bradley and Mrs. D. C. Mills of Cassville and Mrs. W. L. Wright of Exeter. Mr. Ward died Jan. 8, 1882. On Oct. 8, 1883 she married George Brown and two children were born of this marriage and are Riley Brown of Cassville and Frank Brown of Anthony, Kans. Mr. Brown died. In 1895 she and Andrew Merritt were married and he died in 1913. In 1915 she and E. H. Griffith were married and he died at Wichita, Kans. July 6, 1920. She left 47 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren. She died July 2, 1924 at the home of her daughter Mr. W. L. Wright near Exeter, who had tenderly nursed her mother through a continued sickness. The remains were interned in Quaker Cemetery near her old home Wednesday July 2, 1924 with services by Rev. J. T. Research Note: Son of John Benjamin Hutchins and Elizabeth Vestal. His wife was Elizabeth Tolbert. - Goodspeed's 1888 History of Barry Co., MO - John B. Hutchens was born in NC in 1825, and was there married to Elizabeth Tulburt, also a native of the "Old North State" born in 1827. To them were born nine children, viz: William L., Charles E., Rhoda A., Wilson, Mary J., Isaac C., Sarah E., John F., and Lucy E. They removed from their native state to Hardin Co., IA, where they lived for many years. John B. Hutchens was a farmer and miller. He followed the latter occupation in connection with the former until he came to MO, after which he devoted his attention to farming four years, or during his residence in Jasper Co. He then came to Barry Co. where he was engaged in milling until his death in 1878. Research Note: Daughter of Phineas Nixon and Millicent Henley. According to the Quaker Church records, Millicent Nixon, married Simon Jones, Back Creek Monthly Meeting, North Carolina, May 20, 1832, which was in Randolph Co., NC. On the 1880 Mortality Schedule next to Simon was Millicent Jones 67 years old, also listed as married. She died gastritis fever and was ill for ten days. She was listed as keeping house, married, and was born in NC both her parents were born in NC. House, listed under Griffith on this page. - His death certificate places his death in Barry Co., MO, but gives very little information. R. P. Kerr of Cassville, MO was the informant. - Cassville Republican, January 23, 1913 - A. J. Merritt passed peacefully away Saturday, January 4, at his home about 5 miles northeast of Cassville. His ailments were due to heart trouble. The deceased was born December 28, 1844 near Philadelphia, Penn. His parents were reared in Germany and came to this country in the fore part of the 19th century. Mr. Merritt when a young man enlisted in the United States army and served 18 years. Three years of his service was spent in the Civil War. During his service he encountered many daring and remarkable incidents. He was with Gen. Custer in the Black Hills where the General lost his life in the noted massacre. Mr. Merritt was a reserved man of good qualities, such that makes good citizenship. He served his Master with faithfulness and in Him he found his best desire for good deeds to his fellow man. He was married to Mrs. Mary E. Brown (listed on this page under Griffith) Jan. 12, 1895, who survives him, and had lived since that date at the home where he died. He leaves also a number of step-children. They are: Mrs. R. P. Kerr, Mrs. W. L. Wright, Mrs. Dave Mills, Frank and Riley Brown, all living in this county. His remains was laid to rest in the Quaker Cemetery.
