Barry Co., MO
Research Note: Daughter of Frank J. Weymouth and Diadema "Demie" Chanslor. Cassville Democrat, September 30, 1905 - Another home has been made and gloomy, in fact the death of Miss Robbie Weymouth, Friday night, Sept. 22, 1905, cussed sadness to invade the homes of all her acquaintances. She was an exceptionally bright young lady, of splendid qualities and with a disposition that caused sunshine to exist wherever she went. She was very hard student and while attending Florissant Academy, near St. Louis, so impaired her health she had to quit school and come home, but here heath continued to decline. She was the daughter of Mr. F. J. and Mrs. Demie C. Weymouth and died of paralysis, age 17 years, 2 months and 10 days. She left two sisters, Misses Mab and Mary, and one brother Chanslor, to mourn her death. Rev. E. W. Love, pastor of the C. P. Church conducted funeral services at that church Sunday at 10 am. after which the remains were laid to rest in the cemetery at this place. At the funeral services the church was crowded with sympathizing friends. Many beautiful wreaths of choice cut flowers were sent by friends in memory of the beautiful life gone out. She was a member of the Christian Endeavor at the C. P. Church. The bereaved family have the sympathy of their fiends and neighbors. "Earth has no sorrows that heaven can not heal." Online Obit

Cassville,
Barry Co., MO
Dec. 15, 2016
Springdale,
Washington Co., AR
Research Note: He was the first child and only son of Charles and Pearl D. Willis. Charles continued the legacy of industry modeled by his parents, who built the Willis Insurance Agency in Cassville. He applied his hand in the field of building construction and design, leaving his own legacy in wood, stone, and brick, and in the lives of those he trained to become successful builders. Charles graduated from John Brown University (JBU) in Siloam Springs, Arkansas, with a degree in Vocational Education (B.S., 1942); Building Construction was his chosen teaching field. While teaching as a post graduate in John Brown's junior school program, he met Clara Louise Gehron, a senior at JBU. The couple married in 1946 in Clara's hometown of Montezuma, Ohio, and settled in Siloam Springs, where Charles took a staff position with JBU. Charles and Clara were blessed with enduring love; they were married for 66 years. Combining course work completed at the University of Cincinnati and at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville (UAF), Charles earned a five-year degree in architecture (B.Arch., 1954) from UAF, where he studied under the guidance of renowned architect Fay Jones. He served as Head of the Department of Building Construction at JBU from 1954 until his retirement in 1986. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Charles contributed to the design and supervision of multiple construction projects on the JBU campus, including the sanctuary paneling and furnishings for the Cathedral of the Ozarks, the Library Building, and the Science Building. Under his leadership, JBU joined the Associated Schools of Construction. He authored the book Blueprint Reading for Commercial Construction, which was published in 1979. While living at Lost Bridge, Charles did design and drafting work for Village residents. He was commissioned to draw the building plans for Whitney Mountain Chapel, which overlooks Beaver Lake. From 1991 to 1994, Charles served on the Lost Bridge Village Community Association's Board of Trustees, including a term as president (1992–1994). For the Lost Bridge Village Water and Sewer District, he served as a commissioner from 1994 until 2005, chairing the board of commissioners for the bulk of his tenure (1995–2005). He was a member of the Benton/Washington Regional Public Water Authority (Two-Ton Board), which addressed a widespread need for accessible, potable water in rural communities of Northwest Arkansas. Springing from his strong Christian faith, Charles offered his professional expertise to Christian organizations. He was a Founding Trustee with Missionary TECH Team of Longview, Texas, and held full Trustee status for 23 years. He served on the board of New Life Ranch, a Christian youth camp in Colcord, Oklahoma, for 18 years, providing administrative leadership and design services for building projects at the camp. He was preceded in death by his wife, Clara Louise (Gehron) Willis; and his sister, Emma Sue (Willis) Cooper. Backstrom-Pyeatte

William Wilson of Cassville, MO was the informant on the death certificate. - Obit - JAMES WILSON DIES SUDDENLY AT HOME HERE THURSDAY AFTERNOON - PROMINENT CASSVILLE STOCK DEALER SUCCUMBS FOLLOWING SERIOUS ATTACK IN A FIELD NEAR HIS HOME WEDNESDAY MORN. - James F. Wilson, a prominent citizen and stockman of Cassville, died very suddenly at his home in this city shortly after the noon hour Thursday, following a short illness from gall stone colic. Jim, as he was familiarly known, went down into the field at his farm, near town, and while down there, was seriously stricken and his condition has been exceedingly grave up until the end came. Everything possible was done to save his life but all efforts were in vain. Jim Wilson was a man that was loved by all who knew him. He was a big man in size, as well as in heart and was always ready to assist his fellow man. Good to his friends and kind and loving to his family. He was a man whose word was his bond always standing for right and honest at all times. He was a valuable man to Cassville and Barry county and will be sadly missed by all. He was born November 7th, 1872 and was 53 years and 5 days old. He was born on a farm on James River in Stone county and was first married to Minnie Oswalt, who died in 1914. To this union two children were born, Troy of Cassville and Mrs. Ova Little of Chicago, Ill., who survive him. In December, 1919 he and Mrs. Gillie Short of this city, were married and resided at their beautiful home at the out-skirts of this city. He was the son of Steve Wilson, Mr. Wilson dying a few years ago and his good mother resides in Stone county and survives him. He also leaves 6 brothers and 6 sisters to mourn his passing, he being the oldest of the family of 13 children. Jim started out in life on his own resources at the age of 10 years and had only seventy five cents in his pocket at the time. He bought his first farm on terms but at the time of his untimely passing he was comfortably situated, owning one of the best farms in this county and also a fine river bottom farm in Stone county. He also owned various other valuable assets, including stock in the Barry County Bank in this city and much live stock. He was an extensive dealer in live stock and was noted for his straight-forward dealings with all at all times. Last Wednesday morning, he went down in a pasture near his home and took suddenly ill. He managed to return home where medical aid was summoned and his condition was pronounced to be serious from the start of his attack, he suffering with gall stones and locked bowels. His condition continued to grow worse and regardless of the strong treatment administered to him, he passed away at two o'clock Wednesday afternoon with his excellent wife, son and other relatives at his bedside. Little did our friend Jim, think on that fatal morning that he was making his last trip over his farm. A picture of perfect health, no complaint of ill feelings he, as well as his family friends, had no reason whatever, to even suspicion that death was practically staring him in the face. The call was made - he responded. He will be missed not only by his family but by his hundreds of friends throughout this section of the state. Impressive funeral services will be conducted at the Christian church in Cassville, Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, after which interment will be made in the Oak Hill cemetery under the direction of the Horine-Koon Undertaking Co., of this city. The Democrat joins their large number of friends in extending its sincere sympathy to the grief stricken family in their sad hour. Online Obit

WINDES, Russel Rayl, Jr. 1926
Durant, OK
Mar. 25, 2011
St. Louis, MO
SSW: Russel Rayl, Bess Carter, Peggy, Patti - Inscription: "Russel Rayl, Bess Carter" "Peggy, Russell, Pattie -1993" - Research Note: Bess Carter Windes and her two children, Peggy Jane Windes and Russel R. Windes, Jr. P.H.D., will be laid to rest in a graveside celebration at 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 14, 2011 in Oak Hill Cemetery, Cassville, under the direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville. Russel Rayl Windes, Jr. PhD (1926 -- 2011) was born in Durant, Okla., the son of Russel Rayl Windes, Sr. and Bess Carter Windes. As an infant he moved with his family to Cassville. He attended schools in Cassville, Neosho, Monett and Rogers, Ark. He continued his education at Drury College and took time off to teach at Granby High School before his graduation. He earned a master's degree in history from Kansas State University and began teaching in 1953 at Hutchinson (Kan.) High School. As debate coach, he won many tournaments and placed second in state. Recognizing his talent for coaching, the School of Speech, Northwestern University, Chicago, Ill., called him to be director of debate. He received his doctorate and did his post-doctorate at Harvard University and then taught at San Francisco State College and Queens College, City University of New York. He published three textbooks, 25 articles in major journals, edited over 50 books and completed his publishing career which began in 1956 with a major article in 2007. Russel would not measure his success as a teacher, however, solely by the number of prominent attorneys, professors, and business leaders who took his courses. While there were many of these, there were many more in whom he took pride who simply improved their abilities to talk in a rational way to themselves and those close to them. He is survived by his sister. During his time at Northwestern, Mr. Windes earned his doctorate and helped bring the Northwestern debate program to national prominence. As director of debate from 1955 to 1960, he dedicated countless hours to recruiting new members, assigning scholarships, traveling and planning on-campus tournaments, including the first Owen L. Coon Memorial Debate Tournament. He helped to build a "great grey brain," an enormous research file for the debaters. In the 1957–58 season, he made an unconventional move by sending two freshmen, Richard Kirshberg (C61) and William Welsh (J61, G62, 65), to compete in the national championship tournament at West Point, N.Y., against the most experienced debaters around. They won. And to prove it was no fluke, Kirshberg and Welsh won again in 1958–59. Their victories, the first two of 14 National Debate Tournament championships, helped restore Northwestern's reputation as a debate powerhouse. Mr. Windes taught argumentation to Dick Gephardt, (C62, H92), who later became majority leader in the U.S. House of Representatives. As debate director, Mr. Windes worked with Lee Huebner (WCAS62), a debater who later became publisher of the International-Herald Tribune. Many of Mr. Windes' debaters went on to careers as educators, lawyers, judges and entertainers. Mr. Windes served as a speech writer for Adlai Stevenson II (L26), wrote two texts, A Guide to Debate and Argumentation and Advocacy, and published articles in leading communications journals. He was also editor of the Bobbs-Merrill Series in Speech Communication, a scholarly effort that helped transform the study of speech into the academic field of communication. He taught at several universities, including San Francisco State University and Columbia University, and served as a department chair at Queens College of New York, where he taught for 23 years. A leading scholar in speech communications, Mr. Windes became chair of the publication board of the National Communication Association in 1980. Mr. Windes is survived by Ralph Smith, his partner of almost 50 years. - Another Photo - Inscription: "Teacher, Scholar, Friend" Cassville Democrat
