The obituary confirms the year 1901 but the birth year, 1842, is different. - Mrs. Carter, wife of Jackson D. Carter and mother of Mrs. Dr. Mars and Mrs. Edmondson, died at her home on Fourth Street last Sunday morning and was laid to rest in Monett Cemetery, Monday afternoon, Pastor Sullens, Templeton and Jones having charge of the funeral services. Mrs. Carter was born in Pennsylvania in the year of 1842. At the age of seven, she went with her parents to Iowa. In 1864, she was married to J. D. Carter at Burlington. Research Note: She was the first child born to the Aaron Jackson Frost and Edna R. (Melugin) Frost. Charlotte graduated from Jasper High School with the class of 1946. She then furthered her education at Joplin Junior College. In August of 1946, Charlotte began her teaching career in a one-room schoolhouse, having taught children in both Barton and Jasper counties. On December 24, 1949 in Carthage, MO, Charlotte and Calvin R Cloud were united in marriage. To this union, four children were born. Shortly after moving from Carthage to Monett in 1954, Charlotte began in-home childcare at her house on Central Ave. In 1972, Charlotte was licensed by the state of Missouri and began operating Cloud Daycare in her home location on North Eisenhower. She touched the lives of thousands of children in a span of over 60 years. Charlotte retired from daycare service at the "young" age of 87. On October 14, 2000, Calvin preceded Charlotte in death. Also preceding her, a brother, Thomas Jackson "T.J." Frost. A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date. Buchanan Funeral Home

Research Note: He was the son of the late William and Nellie (Little) Coley. Ray graduated from Wister High School, Wister, OK, with the Class of 1954. He then served his country honorably in the United States Air Force from 1954-58. After returning from his duties in Alaska, Ray furthered his education at Poteau Community College, Poteau, OK, obtaining his Associate of Arts Degree in 1960 and then earned his Bachelor's of Science in Education Degree from Southeastern State College, Durant, OK, in 1962. Ray began teaching Sixth grade in Pierce City that same year. He later taught at Camdenton, Jasper and retired from Jane, MO. During his years in education, he also coached Boy's Basketball. Following his retirement, Ray worked part-time as a Courier for First State Bank of Purdy. Ray was a member of New Site Baptist Church in Monett and the Missouri State Teachers Association. On May 9, 1959, Ray Coley and Rene Newby were united in marriage in Wister, OK. To this union, they were blessed with two children. Research Note: Listed by the City of Monett as buried in the Old Section, Block 1, Lot 54, Grave 2. Buried next to Luther Cotton. Supposedly moved to Perry Co., IN a year after being buried at Oakdale. According to the online obituary, his parents were Columbus Cullen and Anna Conner.. - Cullen C. Cotton Dead - The citizens of Monett were shocked on Wednesday evening at the sad announcement of the sudden and untimely death of C. C. Cotton. But few of his immediate friends even knew that he was sick, and when the mournful tidings of his demise were known a gloom spread o'er the city. He was attacked with sickness on Saturday and died Wednesday evening at five o'clock, surrounded by his grief stricken mother, sister, and brother. The immediate cause of his death as stated by the attending physician was peritonitis. Mr. Cotton was born in Troy, Indiana. January 1, 1861; he resided there until two years ago, when with his widowed mother's family he located in (missing) engaging in the (missing). (Missing) success. His upright business habits and genial and friendly manners to all, and especially his true devotion to his mother's family, soon gained for him a wide circle of friends and rendered him popular in the entire community. He was a member at Troy of the M. E. Church, and while taking no active part in church affairs in Monett, he attended services showing a disposition to lead the life of an exemplary and Christian man. Since his father's death, seventeen years ago, he has remained constantly with the family, consisting of mother (ending missing). According to the Tell City Anzeiger (German Newspaper) for June 10, 1893 his body was taken back to Perry County, Indiana for reburial. - Tell City, Indiana, Anzeiger (German newspaper) published the following on the death and reburial of Columbus C. Cotton, Jr., June 10, 1893. - C. C. Cotton: On Friday morning the mortal frame of C. C. Cotton, who died around a year ago in Monett, MO, was brought to Troy and buried there by S. K. Conner, the brother-in-law of the deceased, in the city cemetery. The body arrived in Troy accompanied by the widow and the youngest son, S. K. Conner and was escorted by a large number of relatives and friends to the final resting place. - Note: No record has been found which names any widow or child of Columbus C. Cotton, Jr. Cullen was the grandson of Robert Greenberry Cotton, a doctor in Perry County and his wife, Louisa Protzman. Monett Cemetery Records

SSW: Emma V. - Research Note: Son of Samuel and Elizabeth (Pickard) Crawford, was born November 20, 1836, in Lawrence county, Ind. He united with the Bethlehem Presbyterian Church, Ind., at the age of thirteen. His preparatory studies were pursued in Bedford, Ind., and he graduated from Hanover College in 1860. He entered the Seminary at Princeton the same year, remaining there two years. He was licensed by the Presbytery of Madison April 2, 1862, and ordained by the Presbytery of Dubuque October 8, 1863, and at the same time installed pastor of the Church at Franklinville, IA. He was pastor at Vinton, Ia., Woodhull, Ills., Third Church of Topeka, Bethel Church, Kan., Wamego, Kan., Hopkinsville, Ky., and Ellsworth, Kans., from October, 1890, until the latter half of 1894. He resided in Monett, Mo., from December, 1896 until his death, which occurred May 13, 1897, at Monett, of catarrh of the stomach, in the 61st year of his age. He received the degree of D.D. from Avalon College, Mo., in 1896. Dr. Crawford was married April 3, 1862, in Franklin, Ind., to Miss Emma Vannuys, who, with three sons and two daughters, survived him. He was born in Scott Co., IN, age 24, Ht. 5'8, Brown hair, Blue eyes, Light complexion, was married and a farmer. His residence was Greenbush, Warren Co., IL. He was mustered out on June 26, 1865 at Nashville, TN. Civil War Records indicate that William E. Curry enlisted in Company D, Arkansas 1st Cavalry Regiment on 15 Jan 1863 at Fayetteville AR at age 20, and died at Monett, MO. Buried next to Mary Curry. - He was the son of William E. and Charity (Lane) Curry. - 1900 Census Missouri - Henry - Clinton - District 78, Mark Curry, age 30, married 7 years, railroad section foreman, wife Sadie born Feb. 1873, son Willie age 4, daughter Mable age 10, daughter Maude age 7, all born MO. - According to census records, he married first Mary and second Sadie. Mable definitely belongs to Mary, Maude could belong to either one of his wives as Mary died in 1893. Willie belongs to Sadie. In the 1910 census, they are in Afton, Ottawa, Oklahoma and he is a railroad engineer. - Cassville Republican, Thursday, Nov. 30, 1893 - Licensed to wed: Mark Curry, 24, Monett and Sarah J. Chrosia, ?, Monett. - Cassville Democrat, Saturday, July 10, 1920 - Sadie Curry vs. Mark Curry, divorce; trial by court and petition dismissed. Monett Cemetery Records

CURRY, Mary F. M. No Date Feb. 1893 Research Note: Listed by the City of Monett as buried in the Old Section, Block 1, Lot 52, Grave 1. Buried next to Mark Curry. - On Wednesday, night, Mrs. Curry, wife of Mark Curry, took a dose of Rough on Rats, which in a few hours resulted fatality. Every effort was made to save her life, but to no purpose. She had been in ill health for a long time and it is suppose that becoming despondent, she made up her mind to end her life. No other cause is assigned. Cassville Republican
