They called the newly arrive babe "Denver" and the reason why was never been explained, yet that black headed and eyed babe was allowed to grow to boy and manhood and continues to survive and is doing well on his farm on Washburn Prairie, where he is surrounded by good neighbors like Monroe Logan, Sol Sparkman, Thos. Trolinger, Keet LeCompte, Grat Reese, John Varner and others that are evidently his friends and well wishers. Last Sunday a great host of relatives and friends met at his home and administered such a good feeding to him and all the hosts that had assembled on this happy occasion, that he is not going to soon forget this kindly remembrance of their thoughtfulness, which afforded Denver and family much pleasure and satisfaction. The day was a happy one and will long be remembered by Mr. Banks and family and all the visitors. - Cassville Republican, Thursday, April 3, 1919 - Denver Banks has bought the old William Varner farm which adjoins Mr. Banks on the east. SSW: Rachel - Research Note: Son of Benjamin and Phebe (Shipman) Banks. His wife was Rachel Haddock. - In 1900, Rachel and John Henry Banks were living in Capps Creek Twp., in Barry Co., MO. - December 11, 1909, Saturday, Cassville Democrat - John Banks Died Suddenly: John Banks, one of the most prominent citizens in the New Site community died suddenly at his home southwest of Monett, Wednesday evening. Mr. Banks had been feeling badly several days and complained of a pain in his chest. He was able to be at his work and it was not thought that anything serious was the matter. On Wednesday evening between eight and nine o'clock he sat down by the fire at his home, and without warning fell over dead. Mr. Banks leaves a wife and four children Johnnie Banks, who is at home, Denver Banks, Mrs. J. L. Means and Mrs. J. G. Phillips. Mr. Banks was a good man and highly respected. His death is a sad blow to the community. The funeral will be held at the home Friday morning at 11 o'clock. Monett Times. This is sad news to Mr. Banks many old friends in Cassville, where he was very well known. He was a Deputy Sheriff under Ex-Sheriff Ed O'Dwyer and enjoyed the respect and confidence of all his acquaintances. - March 24, 1898, Barry Co., MO, Cassville Republican - New Site News: Sunday was a very rainy day, yet between 130 and 150 friends and relatives of J. H. Banks gathered at his home to celebrate his birthday. Two long tables were laden with the choicest viands of the culinary? art. After all had declared themselves satisfied, many baskets full were taken up. The afternoon was spent in social conversation interspersed with decollations, instrumental and vocal music. There were too many persons and too many anecdotes to relate, but I might recall the "adjusting to the table" which was harder to accomplish than the apparent adjusting of food to appetites. Geo. Russell as usual was as wild as a Kickapoo. Cassville, Purdy, Pierce City, and Monett were represented. To sum it all up it was a decided success, and enjoyed by everyone. Online Newspapers
