SSW: Elizabeth Mulkey and Eugene A. - Research Note: Civil War Veteran. His death certificate states that Paul Marshall, born VA, was his father and Lambert, born VA was his mother. The cause of death was given as Bright's disease. David Marshall, Jr., Monett, MO, was the informant. Patty's Note: Nancy Willis Lambert was his mother's name, she is buried in Carroll Co., AR. His father was possibly Saul and not Paul. - Cassville Republican, July 1, 1915 - Pioneer Passes Away: David Marshall died at his home just south of Monett Friday morning, June 25. He was in his 82nd year and had been in declining health for sometime, having been troubled with Bright's Disease. David Marshall was born in North Carolina, Oct. 7, 1833. He came to Barry County in 1851. For at least fifty years - possibly much longer - he had lived on the Marshall homestead where he died. He was married to Elizabeth Mulkey, of Neosho, Dec. 27, 1861. She died Oct. 18, 1913. They were the parents of fourteen children, of whom three are dead. Those living are Mrs. Sarah Emery of Wichita, Kan.; Mrs. Millie Bradley, of Tulsa, Okla.; Mrs. Nancy Glasby; Mrs. Marie Scott; Mrs. Ida Agan; Mrs. Blanche Garris; Eli; Mart; Oliver; Charlie and David Marshall of Monett. He was one of the most prominent of the pioneer farmers of the county and was known by nearly everybody in the north part of the county. The south part of Monett was built on land which was originally a part of the Marshall farm and is known as Marshall Hill. Mr. Marshall came to this country as a homesteader in company with a number of other families from Tennessee. They made the trip in wagons drawn by oxen. After selecting their claims they built log cabins and began to open out farms. They lived the simple life of the pioneer. Farming implements were of the simplest sort, such as the wood beam plow, the reap hook and the scythe. Most all of the clothing for the family was made at home in those days and the old time loom, spinning wheel, the cobblers bench, were common articles of furniture found, in most every home. All of the hardships necessarily experienced by the pioneer were experienced by Mr. Marshall and those who came with him in the early days to build homes in this county. When the civil war came up he entered the union army. After he war he settled permanently on the farm where he died. The funeral was held from the Baptist Church in Monett Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, conducted by Rev. L. A. Smith. Interment was made at the I. O. O. F. Cemetery in Monett. - Military Stone - Inscription: "Co G 15 MO Cav." Death Certificate

The Callaway Funeral Home records read that William Mills was alias A. T. Carter. The funeral was held at Dick Mills residence and the cause of death was meningitis. He was age 31 and buried in IOOF and had no stone, according to their report. - Obit: The remains of William F. Mills who died in Fresno, CA, Aug. 2, arrived in Monett, Friday morning, Aug. 7, at 10:20 accompanied by Edward F. Clauser of Pottsville, PA, and was laid to rest in the IOOF cemetery beside his father and brother Fred. The funeral service was held from the home of his brother Richard Mills at 3 o'clock Friday afternoon. Rev. H. B. Foster of the Methodist church conducted the services at the house assisted by George J. C. Wilhelm, Secretary of YMCA. The Presbyterian choir had charge of the music. Leslie Mason sang by request a beautiful solo. I've done my Work. The casket was completely covered with flowers and draped with the flag for which Frank served 18 months over seas. The B. of R. T. lodge No. 513 of which he was once a member gave their burial service at the grave which was most impressive. The pall bearers were composed of Brotherhood members. Mr. Mills was a member of the Houston, TX lodge having transferred his membership from here. He was at the time of his death employed by the Southern Pacific RR, as a brakeman at Fresno, CA. He was sick only a few days on July 27, he was taken to the Fresno hospital by his friend, E. F. Clauser. His condition was not thought serious until July 28, he asked Mr. Clauser to write his mother Mrs. W. J. Mills. "But not to make the letter very strong" as he would soon be better. Mr. Clauser wrote his condition and said they were doing all they could for him. This letter was not received however, until the message came that Frank had passed away. His railroad friends had done all they could for him and when the "Great Conductor called out Eternity" the last station on life's railroad Frank Mills answered the call. He leaves to mourn his sudden death, his wife and children, his mother Mrs. W. J. Mills, one sister Mrs. Fred Salzer of El Dorado, AR, one brother Richard Mills of Monett, and other relatives and a host of friends. The family have the sympathy of all in their bereavement.
