ELLIS, John R. June 20, 1842 May 11, 1907
Stone Co., MO
Research Note: History of Stone County, Missouri Vol. 1, p 406 - John R. Ellis was the son of Alfred B. Ellis and Matilda Malinda Lawson. He married Nancy Jane Wilson on June 28, 1864 in Barry Co., MO. After her death he married Lora Josie Crouch on June 10, 1896 in Stone Co., MO. The DOD on the stone varies from that found in the resource. - Donna's Note: Jim posted June 20, 1842 as the birth date and that he was born in McMinn Co., TN. He also posted May 14, 1901 as the death date and Barry Co., MO. According to the Crane Chronicle, published in May 25, 1907 of the Cassville Democrat, John R. Ellis died in Stone County and was buried in Mars Hill Cemetery. The age given as 67 dates him to be born about 1842 as Jim posted and not 1812 as it first appeared that the stone reads. A closer look reveals that it actually reads 1842. - May 18, 1907, Saturday, Cassville Democrat, Barry Co., MO - "Jas. Ethridge of near Jenkins, was in town Wednesday, and we learned from him, that John R. Ellis of Stone County, died Thursday, age 67 years. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church. He formerly resided near Scholten in this county, and was a good man. He left a wife and several children to mourn his death." Online Obit
