Research Note: He was the son of George F. and Elma Francis (Elam) Beebe. On June 1, 1947 he was united in marriage to Jean D. McDowell. Preceding him in death were his parents; one grandson, Dylan Baker and three brothers. James grew up and received his education in Tulsa, Oklahoma where he graduated from East Central High School. In May of 1944 he was drafted into the United States Army. Returning home in 1946, he dated Jean for one year before they were married. He worked for American Airlines in Tulsa for one year, and Phillips Petroleum Company in Pampa, Texas for a year and a half. Returning to Tulsa he worked for Bama Pie Company for nine years. They then moved to Wichita where he worked for Cain's Coffee Company as a Division Manager from where he retired after 30 years. After retiring they moved to Shell Knob in December of 1985. He was born on April 26, 1932, in Tulsa OK, the son of William Irl Forkner and Vera Hall Forkner. He grew up in Tulsa, OK, and graduated from Will Rogers High School and attended Tulsa University for two years. He then transferred to the University of the Ozarks in Clarksville, AR, and graduated in 1954. He attended Dubuque Theological Seminary and graduated with a masters of divinity in 1957. He earned his doctor of ministry degree on May 10, 1985, also at Dubuque Seminary. In 1955, he married Joyce Graf, and they recently celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary. He was preceded in death by one brother, Bill. Survivors include: four children, of Bentonville, AR, of Yellville, AR, of Bolivar, and of Oklahoma City, OK; and three grandchildren. He was the first full-time pastor at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Shell Knob. He served as Moderator of Presbytery several times. On July 6, 2008, he was named Pastor Emeritus of Trinity Presbyterian Church. He retired in 1997 but continued to serve his church and community. He was chair of the Lions Club Scholarship Committee for many years. He served as chairman of the Kornerstone Board of Directors for several years. Research Note: She was the daughter of Asa Daniel and Ethel (Ingram) Rusher. On July 27, 1958 in Lamont, Oklahoma she was united in marriage to William Calvin "Bill" Griffis. Preceding her in death were her parents; one son, Philip, who was a special child. He loved peanut butter and jelly, stacking books, catalogs and magazines, loved watching television, was very jovial, happy and loved to laugh. Also preceding her in death were an infant brother, Robert Daniel and two sisters, Leta Mae Godbehere and Betty Jo Durben. Willa Dean received her education at Hunter, Oklahoma and graduated from high school at Lamont, Oklahoma. For several years she was employed as a design release clerk for Boeing in Wichita, which is how she met her husband, Bill. Research Note: He was the son of Robert Chester and Freda Vaudine (Estes) Griffis. On July 27, 1958 in Lamont, Oklahoma he was united in marriage to Willa Dean Rusher, who preceded him in death on March 1, 2017. Also preceding him in death were his parents; one son, Philip Wayne Griffis; two brothers, Robert Griffis and Kenneth Griffis and one sister, Margaret Campbell. Bill grew up and received his education in Alabama and earned his Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama. During the Korean War he was in the United States Air Force serving from April 18, 1950 until February 2, 1953. For several years he resided in Douglas, Kansas and was employed thirty-four years as an engineer for Boeing Air Craft, retiring in 1987. During that time he was sent to various places to live. In 1991 he moved to Shell Knob to make his home. He was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Shell Knob and was a Master Mason of Masonic Blue Lodge #236 in Gadsden, Alabama. SSW: Wilma Ford - Research Note: Melvin was the son of Frank J. and Katherine (Albright) Harker. In November, 2007, he married Ruby “Louise” Pratt. Preceding him in death were his parents; his first wife, Evelyn; second wife, Wilma; four sisters, Mary Mitchell, Mildred Vollman, Betty Harris and Harriet McComas; two brothers, Wayne Harker and Harold Harker; two daughters-in-law, Shirley Harker and Christine Harker and two grandchildren, Scott and Jason Lampe. On October 16, 1939, he entered the Service of our country. He was assigned to Coast Artillery, Antiaircraft Battalion. His service included Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, Fort Winfield Scott, California, Fort Clayton, Panama Canal Zone; Fort Bliss, Texas and also Camp Maxey, Texas; Greenock, Scotland and England. In January, 1945, he was sent overseas and saw duty in the European Theatre. Engagements were France, Belgium, Luxemburg, Battle of the Bulge, Siegfried Line, Battle of Rhineland and Central Europe. He had also been an artillery gunner both surface and anti aircraft famous with, 50 cal. 37, 40, 90 mm and 105 MM weapons. Re-assigned to the infantry, he was awarded the combat infantry badge. When the war ended he was with Patton’s 3rd, 87th Division, 346th Infantry, Company E, at Schonsnieder, Germany. He was discharged at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas in June, 1945. For thirty-seven years Mel worked for Trans World Airlines in Kansas City, Missouri and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, as an Airframe and Power plant Mechanic until his retirement in 1982. During that time he was offered a position with the FAA at Oklahoma City, but decided to stay with TWA. In 1986, Mel moved to Shell Knob to make his home. - Another Photo Photos

He retired in 1979 from the Federal Aviation Agency in Pomona, New Jersey as an Instrument Engineer. She was born Oct. 21, 1936, in Aurora, the daughter of Harold and Harriet Frankie (Marion) Thurman. On May 14, 1954, in Aurora, she was united in marriage to Thomas Lee "Tom" Hemphill, who survives. Additional survivors include: two sons, of Cottonwood, Ariz., and of Shell Knob; one sister, Harriet Burnham, of Shell Knob; and two grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents and one brother, Rex Thurman. She grew up and receiving her education in Aurora, graduating from Aurora High School. She resided in Michigan several years, where she was a secretary for Mercy Hospital in Port Heron, Mich. Five years ago, she and Tom moved from Danville, Va., to Shell Knob to make their home. He was born March 31, 1934, in Verona, the son of Loren and Eunice (Bennett) Hemphill. On May 14, 1954, in Aurora, he was united in marriage to Frieda May Thurman, who preceded him in death on June 19, 2010. Also preceding him in death were his parents; one sister, Blanche Greenway; and one brother, Morris Hemphill. Survivors include: two sons, of Richmond, Va., and of Shell Knob; and two grandchildren. He received his education at Verona, where he graduated from high school and attended two years at Missouri State University in Springfield. For 10 years, he was employed for Marsh Funeral Home in Aurora. For several years, he resided in Richmond, Va., where he was vice president for Brenco Bearing Company. Six years ago, he moved back to Missouri and made his home in Shell Knob. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and was a 50-year member of Canopy Masonic Lodge in Aurora. He is preceded in death by his parents Frank H and Ethel (Drummond), stepmother Lucille (Gerber), an infant brother Wayne, sister Janet Federighi, and stepsiblings Pat and Fred Gerber. He was called to the ministry at age 17. Ordained as a minister at 21. He served as an Air Force chaplain for 20 years. Before entering the service he pastored churches in Browning, Slater and Bloomfield, Missouri. As a chaplain in the Air Force he was stationed at Blytheville AFB, AR, Goose Bay AFB, in Labrador, Hill AFB, Ogden, UT, Bergstrom AFB Austin, TX, Elmendorf AFB Anchorage, AK, Patrick AFB, FL, Chin Chaun Kang AFB Taiwan, and McConnell AFB in Wichita, KS. His final pastorate was at Carr Lane Baptist Church. He remained a faithful servant to his Savior until his final days. He graduated from William Jewell College in 1953. Later he earned a Masters in Counseling Psychology, a Masters of Divinity and a Doctorate in Ministry. He played on his high school basketball team and was a boy scout.
