ARNOLD, Paul Jude Oct. 7, 1938
Joliet, IL
Oct. 20, 2007
Springfield, Greene Co., MO
SSW: Carol Horner - Research Note: SSDI gives his last residence as Springfield, Greene Co., MO. SSN issued in NE. - Paul Jude Arnold, age 69, following a long, courageous battle with Alzheimer's. He was born in Joliet, Illinois, on October 7, 1938, to the late Romus and Genevieve Arnold. He grew up in various homes, including Boys Town Missouri after losing his mother as a young child. Despite his difficult childhood, Paul Arnold, achieved a great deal during his lifetime. A graduate of Missouri State University, he married the late Carol Horner, with whom he had nine children. He was the Marketing Promotions Manager of Paul Mueller Company for nearly 30 years, and instrumental in researching the history of Springfield, laying the foundation for the development of Jordan Valley Park, as well as organizing the display of historical photographs that hang throughout the Springfield Brewing Company today. But most significant was his passionate contribution to Rountree School. He served as PTA president in the 1980's, and along with his wife Carol, fought against great odds to keep Rountree school from being closed at this time. Facing dire statistics the school district provided at the time of declining enrollment, Paul Arnold compiled extensive detailed research by going door to door throughout the neighborhood and was able to successfully show the city of Springfield, that contrary to the districts' statistics, the enrollment trend for Rountree school was actually increasing. Thanks to his heroic efforts, the district reversed its decision to close Rountree School, which continues to thrive in a neighborhood passionately devoted to the preservation of their school. Paul was preceded in death by his loving wife, Carol Arnold; his parents; and his older brother Sonny Arnold. - Back Side of Stone Springfield News Leader

Marion Ash was the informant on the death certificate. - Cassville Republican, Dec. 8, 1937 - Sarah Frances (Maples) Ash was born June 7, 1853; departed this life December 6, 1937, age 84 years 6 months. She was born near Cumberland Gap, Tenn., coming with her parents when a small child and settled near Clever, where she spent her early life. She had out lived her 4 sisters and two brothers. She professed faith in Christ in her early life and had united in membership with the Missionary Baptist church. At the time of her death she was a member of the Mt. Olive church about three miles east of Cassville. Grandma had been sick for sometime but bore it with patience as she waited upon her Lord to say “Well done, enter now into the joys of thy Lord.” She had made her home, mostly with her son, Marion, although she would spend weeks visiting her other children, but she would always say take me home. Today we realized the Blessed Lord has taken her home, to be with him forever. Sarah Frances Maples was united in marriage to Irvin Ash in 1878. To this union 4 children were born; Charles dying in infancy, Marion of Cassville; George of Springfield; and Cattie Holloway of Purdy. Research Note: Nathan was married to Christena Beaver. He was a son of Josiah Marion and Mary Jane (Moore) Baird. Death certificate gives his birth date as Mar. 10, 1846. Indexed as Nathan J. Baird. Same death date. Bright's disease was the cause of death. D. L. Mitchell of Cassville, was the informant. Horner Church Cemetery is marked out and underneath it says buried "near his old home". - Cassville Republican, August 20, 1914 - Nathan Baird Dead - Nathan Baird for many years, a highly respected citizen of the vicinity of Cassville, died at his home about 4 miles southeast of town about 12 o'clock Sunday, August 16, 1914, from Bright's disease. He became afflicted several months ago and a general decline became evident to his wife and associates. All treatment came to be temporarily only, availed nothing towards the regaining of his health and the victory of the disease soon became inevitable. The deceased was 66 years and 4 months old and was born in Smith County, Tenn., April 15, 1848. He was a son of the late Capt. J. M. Baird. When a small boy he moved with his parents to Lawrence County of this state where he grew to manhood. In the 70's he was married to Chris Beaver whom survives. To them were born no children. Soon after their marriage, they moved to the place where he lived until death. Besides his wife, he is survived by three brothers, John of Winfield, Kan., Chas. of Stotts City and H. S. Baird of Cassville, and one sister, Mrs. Linda Matlock of Stotts City. The funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the home in charge of Rev. Ed Vanderpool. Interment was made on the home place at a spot selected by the deceased several years ago. In the death of Mr. Baird, Barry County loses one of its most highly respected citizens. He was a man of strong convictions and of unquestioned integrity and stability of character. He took an active interest in the affairs relating to his community and county. For thirty odd years he served successively, with the exception of one term, as school director of the Horner school district. We doubt if another man in the state had a longer record of service on the school board and took more interest in educating the youths of our country. He always manifested an unusual interest in the schools of his district and was a source of encouragement to every teacher who has taught in the district and the pupils as well. Death Certificate

SSW: Aggie - Research Note: He married Agnes Jane Wallen, Sept. 15, 1859 in Barry County, MO. Phyllis' Note: Cassville Democrat, November 11, 1905 - Gone to His Reward - The angel of death entered the home of Andrew Jackson Baker, 2 miles east of Cassville, Saturday, Nov. 4, 1905, and beckoned Uncle "Andy" to go to that celestial home. The spirit took its flight and is now breaking in the Sunlight of his Redeemer. He was born June 4, 1828, in Virginia, and his parents moved to Georgia, where he grew to manhood. He left Georgia, in 1847 and went to Pettis County, Missouri, and then moved to now Carroll County, Arkansas , and located on Leatherwood Creek on White River. In 1856, he moved to Roaring River Township, Barry County, Missouri and on Sept. 26, 1856, he and Miss Aggie Jane Wallen, daughter of the late Rev. John R. and Aggie Wallen, were married, to whom were born ten children, eight of whom are living. They are Columbus C., of Philadelphia, PA., A. J., Jr., Jno. R., Jos. C., and Albert of Cassville, and Chas. Baker of Mineral Springs, Mrs. Lou Davis of Idaho, and Mrs. Bell Higgs of El Paso (in Barry Co., MO). He was a member of the Baptist Church 39 years and lived a consistent member of that church. In 1863, he enlisted in Co. E., 2nd Arkansas Calvary and served to the close of the war. He was corporal in his company. In 1873, he moved to a farm near the Horner Church house, and in 1880, moved to his late home, where he resided for 25 years. He had slight strokes of paralysis sometime ago, but on Nov. 3, had a sever stroke, from which he never recovered and his passing away, was as quiet as a babe going to sleep. His ambition was to live a quiet and peaceable life, which he did. His friends forced the notation of county judge on the Democrat ticket on him, many years ago, but he refused to accept. He always took an interest in the affairs of this county and his country. He enjoyed the highest respect and full confidence of his fellowmen. In fact, all that is expressible, in the word good, was applicable to him. His remains were laid to rest in the Horner Cemetery, after short services by the Rev. E. W. Love of this city. To the bereaved relative we tender our sympathy. - Family Group Sheet Note

Barry Co., MO
Aug. 24, 1903
Barry Co., MO
Research Note: Son of Andrew J. Baker and Agnes Jane Wallen. - Cassville Democrat, August 22, 1903 - Charles Bryan Baker died at the home of his parents, 3? miles east of town, Monday evening, Aug. 24, 1903 of congestion of the brain. On Aug. 29 he got his right leg broken in a hay baler and it is thought that brought on the brain trouble. He was born Mar. 8, 1880, just southeast of town and has always lived in this vicinity. He was an excellent young man, loved by all of his acquaintance, and a leader of the young people in his neighborhood. He was very energetic and a good worker. The remains were laid to rest Tuesday evening in the Horner Cemetery, attended by a large number of sorrowing relatives and friends. Rev. J. T. Brattin conducted very impressive funeral service at the church. The funeral was under the auspices of the Modern Woodmen of America, the Cassville Camp conducting the service at the grave. Charlie was devoted to his parents and that makes it the harder to see him go. Sweet peace to your memory, Charlie. - Family Group Sheet Online Obit

BOSTICK, Charley D. Sept. 27, 1872 Mar. 1, 1896 Research Note: Son of William A. and Cynthia A. (Stone) Bostick. - Cassville Republican, March 5, 1896 - Died, Sunday, March 1, Charles D., Son of Wm. A. and Cynthia A. Bostick, age 23 years, 5 months, and 3 days. He leaves a father, two brothers, four sisters and many friends to mourn his early departure. He was loved and respected by all and will be sadly missed at home as well as by his neighbors and friends. Charles gave his heart to the Savior about the last of November, 1895 and gave bright evidence that he had found peace in the pardon of his sins, since which time he has lived faithful and no doubt in safe with Jesus and with his dear mother who had proceeded him to the better land. The sympathy of the whole community is with the family in their sad bereavement and also in the terrible affliction through which they are called to pass. They all except the married sister and the father, have been afflicted with the typhoid fever, which took Charley from them. May the Lord comfort and sustain the afflicted brothers and sisters and give the father that consolation and strength he so much needs in watching and caring so incessantly as he does both day and night for his suffering children. Charles' remains were laid to rest by the side of his mother to the beautiful cemetery near Horner Church Monday, Mar. 2, service by this writer, E. A. Hawk. Online Obit

He was twice married and 9 children survive him, two, Rev. I. W. Brock, at whose home he had been living for sometime, and Judge Amos Brock of Shell Knob are of the first marriage. The others live at a distance. During the Civil War, Mr. Brock served in the Union army. For nearly three fourths of a century he had been one of this county's highly respected citizens. He had been an invalid for the past few years but had borne his suffering patiently. BROCK, James Clarence Jan. 30, 1893 Feb. 2, 1918 Research Note: He was a son of Isaac Washington and Phoebe Elizabeth (Aldridge) Brock. - Cassville Republican, February 7, 1918 - Clarence Brock whose home was east of Cassville three miles, died Saturday, Feb. 2, at Chillicothe, where he was attending business college. His death was a result of an attack of measles of which he had been ill since January 18. The sad news of his untimely death brought deep grief to the members of his family and to his numerous friends and associates in this community where he had lived all of his life. Having been informed of his serious illness, his father, Rev. I. W. Brock, and his brother, Floyd, went to Chillicothe last week to attend him. They arrived Friday noon and remained at his bedside until he passed away at about the noon hour on Saturday. The body was prepared for burial there and sent to Cassville, arriving here Sunday at noon when it was taken to the family home east of town. The funeral was held Monday afternoon at the home, conducted by Rev. J. T. Brattin and Rev. W. T. Ward of Dallas, Tex. Interment was made in the Horner Cemetery. Clarence Brock was a son of Rev. and Mrs. I. W. Brock. He was born near Cassville January 30, 1893. He grew up to manhood in this locality, attending the rural schools and the Cassville High school. Early last fall he entered the Chillicothe Business College to prepare himself for work in the government civil service. President Moore of the College says that Clarence was one of the very best students in the college. He was a young man of sterling character and most likable disposition. He was industrious and ambitious to succeed. For several years he had been a member of the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church and was held in the highest esteem by the entire community. While his death is a hard blow to this family, his noble Christian life will ever be all abiding consolation. Online Obit

Aldridge on Dec. 19, 1880 in Barry Co., MO. - Cassville Democrat, March 29, 1929 - This county lost another one of its very best citizens, last Sunday, when Mrs. Phoebe Elizabeth Brock died at her home near this city at the age of 69 years, 9 months and 9 days. In the year 1880 she was married to Isaac Brock, a well known and prominent farmer residing near this city. Ten children were born to this marriage, one of which died in infancy and the other at the age of 25 years. The surviving children are: Miss Sophia Brock at home, Mrs. R. L. Thomas, Mrs. Geo. England, Mrs. Loren Hodge, Albert, Ollie and Floyd Brock, all living near Cassville. She is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Geo. Earle of near Cassville and Mrs. Ambrose Towler of Mano and one brother J. H. Aldridge of Mano. The deceased professed religion at the age of 17 years and has been a consistent member of the Mt.
