Research Note: Monett, Barry Co., MO resident. He was the son of William and Ella (Steineweg) Eden. He graduated from Monett High School in 1972. Mr. Eden married Kathy Murray on Friday, September 22, 1995 in Eureka Springs, MO. Mr. Eden spent many years as an educator and working with computers. He worked as the Technology Director at Cassville Schools and then moved into the classroom teaching Computer Maintenance and Networking at Southwest Regional Technical Center (SRTC) in Monett, MO. Mr. Eden went to work a couple of years at WTI in Joplin, MO before returning to SRTC to teach again. He was a member of Decatur Lodge 400 AF and AM in Pierce City, MO, Abou Ben Adem Shrine Temple in Springfield, MO, and the Valley of Joplin Scottish Rites. His wife was Margaret West. - Obit: Jonathan Eden Died on Sunday - Final Rites Will be Held on Tuesday - Jonathan Eden, lifelong resident of Barry Co., died at 8:20 p.m. Sunday at the age of 85. The farm home is six miles south of Monett. He was the father of eight children, all of the Monett community. Mr. Eden is survived by three sons, William S. Eden of the home, Roscoe Eden of Monett RFD, and Waldo Eden of Purdy RFD; four daughters, Mrs. James Huffmaster of Monett; and Mrs. Ellis Nunley and Mrs. Harry Planchon of Monett RFD, and Miss Marie Eden of the home; five brothers, Ora Eden of Ramona, OK, Thomas Eden of Rocky Ford, CO; Francis Eden of Rocky, CO, and Arthur Eden of Princeton, TX; 16 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. His wife and one daughter preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the New Salem Church with Rev. Francis Goodnight officiating, assisted by Rev. M. H. LaFollette. Burial will be in the Goodnight cemetery under the direction of the Bennett-Wormington Funeral Home of Monett. Goodnight died at her home, two miles north of Purdy, January 25. She had suffered from an attack of la grippe and lung trouble for eight weeks before her death. She was born in Giles County, Tenn. Feb 7, 1831, making her 81 years, 11 months, and 19 days old. She was converted at the age of twelve years and had lived a consistent Christian life till death. Her life should be an example for the younger generation to follow. Grandma called her children to her bedside a few hours before she died and taking them by the hand told them she was ready and willing to die, for she could see her Savior waiting for her. She leaves one sister, Mrs. Arcena Bandy of Monett, a brother, W. M. Betterton of Texas, and eight children who reside in Barry County, Mrs. Mary Lee, G. W. Goodnight, Mrs. M. J. Stringer, Mrs. S. E. Sexton, Mrs. S. E. Wormington, W. F. Goodnight, Miss Cora Goodnight, and L. C. Goodnight, also twenty five grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren besides a host of other relatives and friends. The funeral services were conducted Thursday afternoon at the New Salem Church by Rev. J. Combs and Rev. G. W. Quails after which the remains were laid to rest in the Goodnight Cemetery to await the great resurrection day. In her departure the children have lost a kind and loving mother. But her birth year may have been 1841. Stone has incorrect date for birth as 1852. Death Certificate has birth date as Apr. 3, 1842. The cause of death was paralysis and softening of brain. Widow at time of death. Parents listed were James and Jane (Busby) McCoy of TN. - Cassville Republican, May 14, 1914 - Mrs. Elizabeth Goodnight dead: Mrs. Elizabeth Goodnight, widow, of the late George M. Goodnight, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. C. D. Manley, in this city, Monday night, May 11, 1914. The deceased had been in poor health for some months, suffering from paralysis, and complication of other diseases. Though not until last week did her condition become serious. Mrs. Goodnight was born April 3, 1842 in Giles County, Tenn., and moved with her parents to this county in 1856 where she grew to womanhood. She was married to the late G. M. Goodnight in 1864. She was the mother of four children, two living. They are Mrs. C. D. Manley of this city and Mrs. Arthur Frost of Neosho. Mrs. Goodnight was a member of the Methodist Protestant Church. Her influence was always for good and in her death the community has lost an excellent Christian mother. She resided in Cassville for a number of years and number her friends by her acquaintance. The members of the family have the heartfelt sympathy of the community in their loss of a devoted and sacrificing mother. The funeral services were held at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. C. D. Manley, Wednesday morning at 8 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Hickman. Interment was made at the Goodnight Cemetery north of Purdy that afternoon, after short services at the grave, conducted by Rev. Henry filed for his pension on June 23, 1880 and Eliza filed on July 5, 1902. - Bio by Carol Smith: Henry Weakley Goodnight was born Feb. 6, 1825 in Giles, Tennessee, USA as the eleventh child of John Henry Goodnight and Mary Margaret Condor. He had eleven siblings, namely: George Martin, John Henry, Rachel, Nancy, David, Margaret Ann, Elijah, Green, Susan, Betsy, and Elizabeth. He died May 5, 1902 in Purdy, Barry, Missouri, USA. When he was 24, He married Eliza Ann Patrick,daughter of John Patrick and Abigail Zornes, May 2, 1849 in Barry, Missouri, USA. He lived in Benton, Greene, Missouri in 1850. In 1855, the three sons of John H. came to Stone's Prairie in Barry County, about five miles south of what is now Monett. The sons John Jr., Henry Weakley, and George Martin all found homesteads in the immediate neighborhood. On Mar. 1, 1860, he homesteaded 40 acres of land in Barry County. He lived in Capps Creek, Barry, Missouri, USA 1870, and homesteaded another 80 acres of land on Dec. 30, 1871. He lived in Capps Creek, Barry, Missouri, USA 1880. He lived in Kings Prairie, Barry, Missouri, USA 1900. (Due to changes in the land boundaries, he may have been in the same location this entire time). Henry Weakley Goodnight died on May 5, 1902 and was buried in the Goodnight Cemetery, N. of Purdy, MO. Upon his death Henry's brother George Martin set aside a plot of ground for a graveyard and his father was the first to be buried there. This has become the final resting place of a great many of the family and has come to be known as the Goodnight Cemetery. It is located about one fourth mile east of State Highway 37, and about five miles south of Monett. - Cassville Republican, Oct. 31, 1901 - Henry W. Goodnight, an uncle of Postmaster Goodnight of Cassville, lies in a very critical condition at his home near Purdy, the result of a stroke of paralysis, which befell him about one month ago and which affected the lower half of his body. Robberson of Madison Mill was very sick with a severe pain in her head. - Cassville Democrat, November 12, 1904 - Mrs. Thos. H. Robberson died Thursday morning at the Madison Mill, of a complication of diseases, age 36 years. The remains were laid to rest Friday in the Goodnight Cemetery. Rev. Ennis conducted services at the grave. She had been sick since Aug. 6, and bore her suffering with Christian fortitude. She was a member of the M. E. Protestant Church. In his sore affliction, Mr. Robberson wills the sympathy of all the acquaintances. She left four children, the youngest three months old, to mourn her death. Mrs. Robberson was a daughter of W. G. Research Note: According to his death certificate he was married and a son of Daniel Robberson and mother's maiden name Hays, both born TN. A. E. Robberson of Purdy, MO was the informant. The cause of death, "Supposed to be valvular heart disease - coroner did not think it necessary - hence an inquest was held. Probably acute indigestion." - According to the obit, he was married 4 times. He first married Malinda Waltrip on June 4, 1874 in Barry Co., MO, died in 1893 and is buried in Eugene Gates Cemetery. Thomas second married Rachel C. Goodnight on Dec. 20, 1885 in Barry Co., MO, she died in 1891. He third married at age 43, Ollie Belle (Gano) Dixon on Apr. 28, 1894 in Monett, MO, died in 1904. - May 3, 1894, Cassville Republican - Licensed to Wed: Thomas H. Robberson, 43, Purdy and Olive B. Hankins on Nov. 17, 1909 in Barry Co., MO. - June 2, 1917, Cassville Democrat - Thomas H. Robberson Dies very suddenly - Another home has been visited by death and the spirit was beckoned to depart from this earth and go hence to its reward. The summons came sudden and apparently without pain, at the age of 66 years, 8 months and 7 days. Thomas H. Robberson died Saturday evening, May 26, 1917, at his home in the Oak Ridge neighborhood, about 5 miles northeast of this city. He had been out doing some choiring about his feed lot and returned to the home, feeling badly and his wife met him in the yard and told him he had better go in the house and lay down, when he died suddenly. He was born in Tennessee, Sept. 19, 1850, and when a boy his parents moved to Barry County and he had made this county his home since. He had lived near Purdy, this city and near Golden. He had been married four times and his last wife, Mrs. Martha Robberson survives him. The children of the first marriage are: Elmon and Mrs. Mattie Henderson of Purdy, and Ora E. Robberson of Scapula, Okla.; the children of the second marriage are: Mrs. Jas. Jefferson and Mrs. Norman McNabb of near Cassville and Wm., whose address is unknown; of the third marriage: Ferrell Robberson of Sapulpa, Okla., and Emil and Leo of Cassville. His health had been bad for some time and he had been on the gradual decline. The day of his death, he spent several hours at the store at Oak Ridge and seemingly was feeling fairly well. The body was conveyed Monday to New Salem Church on Kings Prairie where Rev. J. W. Ennes conducted services and interment was made in the Goodnight Cemetery near the church. - Cassville Republican, August 27, 1904 - G. R. Brown was shot accidentally by Thos. Robberson, Saturday night, near the Madison Mill. It seems Robberson has a watermelon patch, which some boys had invaded and Mr. Robberson sent the Brown boy to scare them out, and had to shoot to scare them out. Mr. Robberson went a little later, and as the Brown boy was shooting to run the boys out, Robberson thought Brown was one of the invaders, shot Brown with a double barrel shot gun, loaded with fine shot, not hurting him badly as he was at the reunion Wednesday. - June 9, 1917, Cassville Democrat - Local And Personal: J. W. Ennes attended the funeral of T. H. Robberson last week. Research Note: Louella married Bert Robbins August 5, 1903 in Barry Co., MO. - Monett Times, August 7, 1913 - Mrs. Bert Robbins Dead: Mrs. Bert Robbins died Friday, morning, August 1, at the home of her brother, Dr. Robert Harper, at Afton, Okla. Funeral services were held Sunday at New Salem church near Monett, conducted by Rev. Francis Goodnight. Interment was made in the Goodnight Cemetery. The deceased was a young woman of much intelligence and lovely Christian character. Her name before her marriage to Bert Robbins was Luella Harper. She taught school a number of years in Barry County and stood high in her profession. She was married in 1903. She was the mother of four daughters who survive her. She was ill for a time with tuberculosis. Six months before her death she left her little family with relatives and went to Afton, Okla., to receive medical treatment from her brother. The disease had too firm a hold, however and her brave fight for health was unrewarded. SSW: Esther A. - Research Note: He was married and a farmer and a son of John and Margaret (Ottman) Snyder. His wife was the informant. - Holly Hoffman gives his father as Abraham Snyder. Peter's wife was Ester Ann Niskern, daughter of Marcus Niskern/Kniskern and Nancy Margaret Snyder. Their children were William, Flora, Earnest A., John Edward, Nancy M., Elmer, Frank, and Stella. - Goodspeed's History of Barry Co. gives P. O. Synder as a jeweler in 1897. - June 9, 1917, Cassville Democrat - P. O. Snyder died May 30, 1917, at his home in Monett, aged near 80 years. In 1869 or 70 he came to Barry County and located in Kings Prairie township, where he owned a farm. In the early seventies he moved to Cassville and had charge of the Barry County Advocate, a publication that was devoted to the interests of the "tad pole" party as it was called and after two or three years lease of life it passed out. Mr. Snyder was a good printer in his day and time and published a neat newspaper. After his newspaper experience in this city, he returned to his farm on Kings Prairie where he continued to reside until sometime last year, when he moved to Monett. He was a native of New York state. He was a good man and citizen and enjoyed respect and confidence of all his acquaintances. He was a member of the Protestant Methodist Church. Rev. R. S. Maynard enjoyed his childhood in Kansas, even through the Great Depression. He joined the Navy at age 17 and was a proud veteran of World War II and the Korean War. Maynard met his sweetheart, Betty Phillips, in San Diego and they were married 10 days later. They were married for nearly 60 years before Betty passed away. Maynard was an electrician for many years in Idaho and California before retiring in Missouri.
