Barry Co., MO
Research Note: She was the daughter of Rev. Frank and Maude (Johnson) Hall, the only daughter amidst five brothers. She completed studies at the Oak Ridge Community School, ultimately graduating from Cassville High School class of 1940. Shortly after graduating from High School, Pauline married a local boy - Jack Keaton - who enlisted in the U.S. Army and was sent to the South Pacific theater during WW II. There, he contracted malaria and was shipped stateside to the Presidio military facility in San Francisco for rest, rehabilitation and light duty. Pauline joined him there for a few months and upon his honorable discharge, Jack and Pauline moved back to southwest Missouri. Soon thereafter, however, Jack Keaton succumbed to complete coronary failure. For the next few years, Pauline worked in the Barry County Courthouse until meeting and marrying Jack Hickman, a West Point graduate and U.S. Army Colonel (Ret.). After briefly residing in south Texas, Jack and Pauline Hickman moved back to Barry County, had a son, bought some property in the Oak Ridge area, and began a small farming operation. After Pauline and Jack Hickman divorced, Pauline continued the farming operation by transitioning to beef cattle and resuming her career at the County Courthouse. She sold the farm property in the late 1970's and moved to town, retiring from the Courthouse as Deputy County Clerk in the mid-1980's. With retirement, Pauline received a commendation from the Missouri State Legislature, passed as a resolution sponsored by then-Senator, the Honorable Emory Melton. Fohn Funeral Home

SSW: Nathaniel G. - Research Note: Wife of Nathaniel G. Laird. Daughter of Martin Ennis born AR and Mary Jennings born MO. James Laird of Fairview, MO was the informant on the death certificate. - Oct. 19, 1944, Cassville Republican - Mary Caldona Ennis departed this life at the age of 69 years, 1 month and 17 days. She was the daughter of Mary and Martin Ennis. On Apr. 19, 1890 she married Nathaniel Laird. To this union were born 3 sons, William, who died in infancy, Alfred and James. She leaves to mourn her passing her husband and sons, grandchildren Charles, Leon, Donna and Stanley; brothers Ranzy, Fred, and Harrison Ennis; plus a host of relatives and friends. Mother passed away at her home with the evidence of that greater life after death. She was converted about the age of 15. In later years she, with her family, united with the Oak Ridge Methodist Church where her membership remained until her death. She was a faithful wife and mother all through her entire life, always considerate of others - even at her own sacrifice. There can be no tribute paid her that she was not worthy of. While Mother was on her bed of affliction she sang the old hymn "I am walking in the Light" and "My Path is shining Bright". Then rejoiced in the hope of Eternal Life which but God himself can give. Mother we will miss you beyond what any words can express, but in our of loneliness you will guard over us. We expect to meet you again when the trumpet shall sound and the dead in Christ shall arise. Headstone

TERRY, Barbara (ENNIS) Oct. 24, 1788
NC
Feb. 12, 1883
Barry Co., MO
Inscription: "Husband William Terry died May 15, 1869 and buried in Greene Co., MO while visiting children." - Research Note: Their daughter was Melinda Terry who married Elisha Ennis. - Terry Family History Book. Marilyn A. Hudson, 2011 - William TERRY (William, John ) was born to John and Esther (BROWN) TERRY, one of the post-revolution generation, on 7 November 1785. His family was living in the northeastern finger of what came to be known as the state of Tennessee. Barbara ENNIS was the daughter of Elizabeth ENNIS (ca. 1767-1851), born 24 October 1788 in Burke Co., NC. No father is known. It is believed that her mother never married, however, she did have three children: Barbara (1788-1883), Nancy (ca. 1790-1848) and John (1792-?). Elizabeth ENNIS, Barbara's mother, was the daughter of James ENNIS (ca. 1735-?). She was probably born in Augusta Co., VA since that is where her father and grandfather can be located. Barbara died 12 February 1883 at the "Poor Farm" near Cassville, Barry County, MO. She was 94 years old at the time of her death. While buried in Barry Co., the exact location of her grave is not verified. It was about 1810-1816 that William and Barbara headed into the newly opened Indiana Territory. The dates of the birth of several children indicate that they were most likely in Gibson County, IN beginning about 1812-1814. They would call the area home for about the next sixteen years. For the next two decades (1832-1857) they lived in the three county area of Washington, Benton, Madison in Arkansas. There they may have lived in a log cabin amid the forested hills of the area since cabins where the most common style of home for these early pioneers. William TERRY and Barbara moved into Barry County, MO in 1860. Legend has it that on a visit to one of his married children in nearby Greene County, William died on Saturday, 15 May 1869. It seems appropriate for a man who seemed to always seek out the virgin country, the frontier regions and the unknown places, that the location of his grave in Greene County remains a mystery. - Another Photo Photo
