He is survived by his wife of seventy years, Roma Easley; five children; ten grandchildren; twenty-seven great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Greenberry Easley and Mollie Easley; four brothers, Loren Easley, Frank Easley, Aubrey Easley and Loyd Easley; four sisters, Zuma Priest, Alma Easley, Allie Prier and Julie Cooper and two great grandchildren, Parker and Fisher Vinson. Eveline Easley. - Uncle Ned Easley Dies Sunday Morning: Age 91 Years - Honorable Barry County Man born on Farm Near Home Where He Died - Uncle "Ned" Easley, one of the Barry County's oldest citizens passed away Sunday morning at 8 o'clock at his home on White River, near Eagle Rock, following an illness extending over the past few months. Ninety-one years and seven months ago, this excellent character was born on a farm on White river, a short distance from his home where he passed away. Ever since that time he has been a resident of this county, living in the same neighborhood where he was born. He had lived on his present farm since the year 1865. In that same year, Uncle Ned, as he was familiarly known, was united in marriage to Miss Mary Russell to which union 9 children were born. He was survived by Charles, Finis, Floid, Mrs. Henry Maloney (Molly), Mrs. William Tucker (Arizona), and Mrs. Same Skelton (Lona) all of whom reside in this county. On May 3, 2016 she joined the Air National Guard and was senior airman in 138 Fighter Wing in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The last eight months she was stationed in Charlotte, North Carolina as an all source Intelligence Analyst and was a member of 145 Airlift Wing. She loved the military and was a member of the Student Veterans Organization. She also enjoyed weight lifting and was proud to be a Muscogee Creek Indian. Wilma grew up and spent most of her life in Barry County, spending seven years in Texas and eighteen months in Idaho. She attended school in Barry County and two years at Clay Hill High School then continued her education at Southwest Baptist College. For twenty years she was the Librarian at Cassville Schools and also worked in the book mobile before retiring. Larecy at Eagle Rock stating that two of his children, Elby and Margaret had died of measles. The remains were interred there Thursday. Wm. E. Larecy was raised at Eagle Rock and his many acquaintances in this county will deeply sympathize with him in his great sorrow. - Cassville Republican, May 23, 1918 - Celebrates 80th Birthday - The children of Frank Larecy assisted by their mother and a large number of neighbors and friends, gathered at the Larecy home in Eagle Rock Monday, May 20, and set a fine dinner in honor of his 80th birthday. He was completely surprised and appreciate very much the honor paid him. His two sons, John and Will, who live at Hugo, Okla., came in the latter part of last week. John had to return home Saturday night on account of the illness of his boy who accompanied him on the trip. The other children of the family were present Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Larecy have lived at Eagle Rock about 38 years. They were for many years engaged in the mercantile business there. She was an excellent wife, mother and citizen and enjoyed the respect of all her acquaintance. Mrs. Francis Larecy died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 1923, at the home of her daughter Mrs. Julia Smith near Stoney Point school house, three miles southwest of Cassville, of a general break down, aged about 70 years. She left four children to mourn her passing on, who area: J. F. Larecy, of Hugo, and William Larecy of Soper, OK; Mrs. Julia Smith of near Cassville, and Mrs. Mollie Easley of near Eagle Rock. Warren and others of Liberty township were down there last week fishing. Some of the boys killed a blacksnake and fastened the snake to his hook, and he drew it out very rapidly, declaring that he had an eel and asked the boys to "land on it" The boys also placed a sucker on W. J. Brand's hook that had been caught the day before who hauled it out and declared it was the first fish caught. - Wheaton Journal, June 9, 1932 - Bill Lewis of Eagle Rock, who recently drew $8,000 from a Cassville bank, was robbed of $7,000 early Monday morning. One thousand dollars of the eight had been loaned. The money was taken by three bandits from a trunk in Lewis' home about eight o'clock Monday morning while Mr. Lewis was in the pasture to see about some cows. "Aunt Addie" Tucker, sister of Mr. Lewis was in the house when the money was taken. The bandits used no violence but told Mrs. Tucker that she would not be harmed if she kept quiet. As they were leaving in a red Chevrolet coupe, they were met by Mr. Lewis. Neither Mrs. Tucker nor Mr. Lewis noticed the license plates of the car. Research Note: Susan W. Smith was the daughter of George Pryor and Elizabeth Hutchenson. On July 3, 1856, she was married to Charles Willard Judson Fairchild in Marion Co., MO. Mr. Fairchild was a traveling tombstone salesman and a bigamist. On Aug. 8, 1861, she was married to James J. Smith in Marion Co., MO, by Judge Gore. Judge Gore did not record the marriage. Susan was the mother of Bainbridge, Susan, Amanda, Commodore Decatur, Rosa Lee, Anna, and Sherman Smith. Susan's son, Sherman temporarily marked her grave with a fieldstone next to the large tombstone of her husband. Sherman attempted to get money from the pension board to buy Susan a proper tombstone. Grandfather Edward's older brother, Christopher Columbus Easley had died in a very cold and icy winter. When the family tried to get the horse drawn wagon up the hill to the Old Easley Cemetery where their parents, Green Berry and Eveline Johnson Easley were buried, they could hardly make it. Edward Easley lived across White River from the Old Easley Cemetery (also called Hickam/Hickum) and just crossing the river in the winter was difficult. Some say that as the wagon climbed the icy hill, the casket slide out. So after Grandfather Edward and family had such a difficult time burying Christopher, he made the comment, "As for me and mine, we'll be buried with the soldiers." On what was once his father's land and was later his brother's land, some Civil War Soldier had been buried. As the Civil War was between 1861 and 1865, the cemetery had been started in those years. It became the Easley Cemetery and is near Eagle Rock, Mo. We believe that the 7 fieldstones in line in the same row with Grandfather Edward, his son, Edd, and his wife Mary Russell Easley are those 7 soldiers. As Grandfather Edward was a Union Soldier himself, we are pretty sure these are Union Soldiers as he definitely wouldn't have wanted to be buried with Southern Soldiers. The reason I think this story is important that it gives us some idea of about when the Easley Cemetery was established and that the 7 graves are of union soldiers. | Photo Note Darla Ball Marbut |
