The cemetery records have him in Section A, row 2, grave 5 and he has a rock for a stone. - According to his death certificate he was a son of Silas Mahurin, born Barry Co., MO, mother not given (mother was Mary Jane Pendergraft). Jessie Mahurin was the informant. Cause of death was suicide, gunshot wound to the left chest. Location was in the car on a public highway near Stella, Newton Co., MO. Obit notes: Husband of Jessie (Vestal) Mahurin married July 7, 1912 in Barry Co., MO. Son of Silas Mahurin and Mary Jane (Pendergraft) Mahurin. Brother of Belle Letts, Dora E. Stephens, Sallie Angeline Mitchell, Nancy, Maggie, Charlie, Willard Lafayette, Henry Martin, Samuel, and Earl Mahurin. Jess died around 9:30 a.m. in his car that he parked on Hwy. O , in front of the Macedonia Cem., from a self-inflicted wound from a 12-gauge shotgun. A suicide note was found in his pocket which gave financial worries as the reason for this act. McAllister in Wellsville, New York on April 30, 1949. They recently celebrated sixty-eight years of marriage. They moved from Wellsville, NY to Prescott, AZ. in 1952, then moved to West Fork, AR in 1956, then to Springdale, AR until settling in Pea Ridge in 1966. Betty was very accomplished, starting out as secretary to Judge Bill Enfield then moving to Executive Secretary to the Vice President at Cooper Communities in Bella Vista, AR. Then she joined Wal-Mart where she was appointed editor of the "Wal-Mart World" newspaper. From there she went to work at the Head Start Program in Rogers, AR and then as secretary to the renowned "Dr. Spock", all the while living on a cattle ranch and being a devoted wife and wonderful mother to three sons. She is preceded in death by a son, Don McAllister Jr., her sister Ruthie Cornelious, a grandson Jeffery Smith, and a long time loving daughter-in-law, Patsy Clanton McAllister. Sisco Funeral Home

SOLDIER - James Edward Morgan, 22, Rt. 2, Garfield, Ark., died Oct. 20, 1967, in a hospital in Vietnam of wounds suffered a few hours earlier. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Vadis Morgan of Rt. 2, Garfield. He was born in Barry County on Aug. 16, 1945. He graduated from Southwest High School at Washburn in 1954. He entered the service on Aug. 9, 1966 at Ft. Leonard Wood. James had been in Vietnam about 10 months. Survivors besides his parents are five sisters and four brothers. Donna's Note: The Pineville library has a note that his obituary was published in the Joplin Globe, naming his father as Michael and his death date as Feb. 26, 1987. - Washburn Infant dies in Accident: A Washburn, MO couple was injured and their 1 year old child was killed when the car in which they were riding hit a bull on Lee Town Road east of Pea Ridge, AR. Police said Michael Clayton Morgan, 21, the driver of the car, Brenda Lee (Pendergraft) Morgan, age 19, a passenger, were taken to St. Mary's Hosp. in Rogers. Their son, Michael D. Morgan was killed. A spokeswoman at St. Mary's said the driver was in stable condition Tuesday night. Mrs. Morgan, transferred to Washington Reg. Medical Center, was listed in poor condition in the Fayetteville hospital's intensive care unit. The accident occurred before dawn Tuesday, state police said. Note

Her grandfather was George Washington Woodard who was hanged by the bushwhackers. - The death certificate says she was the daughter of Lott Banks and Rebecca Woodard. Dona Potts of Garfield, AR was the informant. Dona was their daughter. - Cassville Republican, May 23, 1957 - LAST RITES FOR ONE OF COUNTY'S OLDEST NATIVES - Last rites were conducted Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Dent Cemetery , for Mrs. Alice Potts under the direction of the Culver Funeral Home. Alice Tennessee, daughter of Lott and Rebecca Banks, was born in Barry County on May 3, 1865 and passed away at her home May 17, 1957, at the age of 92 years. In 1883 she married William Potts and to this union five children were born. One daughter, Gertie preceded her in death, also her husband in 1983. In 1845 her father, Tug Webb, and Burl Goins and John Henry came from Tennessee in a covered wagon and settled in Barry County. Mrs. Potts spent her entire life in the Maple Grove community in Ash Township where she was born. She had been an invalid for the past several years. Surviving are two daughters, two sons,12 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and 11 great great grandchildren; one brother and one sister. Funeral services were conducted by Bro. I.D. Son of George and Laura (Mahurin) Stephens. - Jess Willard Stephens, 87, of Cassville, died yesterday, December 29, at St. John's Hospital-Cassville. Mr. Stephens was born October 9, 1916, in Garfield, Arkansas, the son of George and Laura (Mahurin) Stephens. He was a cattle farmer and was a member of Maple Grove Church of Christ in Seligman. He married Alice Louise Mars on January 24, 1939, in Pineville, and she preceded him in death May 12, 1985. He was also preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters. There are no immediate survivors. Services will be 10 a.m. tomorrow, December 31, at Maple Grove Church of Christ in Seligman. Burial will be in Dent Cemetery in Seligman under the direction of Williamson Funeral Home of Cassville. There is no other information posted about her. - The Times Of Northeast Benton County, March 14, 1996 - Bonnie Weldon, 58, of Washburn, died March 10, 1996, at Bentonville. She was born Nov. 25, 1937, at Washburn to George Woodrow and Velma Clement (Ellis) Stephens. She was a homemaker, a seamstress for 31 years and a care giver for the past six years. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Washburn. She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Raymond Weldon, in 1987; her father, one brother, one sister and one granddaughter. Survivors include one son; one daughter; her mother; two brothers; five sisters; five grandchildren. Service was Tuesday at Sisco Funeral Home in Pea Ridge. Burial was in Dent Cemetery, Sisco Funeral Home directing. Note
