Research Note: He was the son of Sven "Sam" and Peggy (Higgins) Rasmussen. Mr. Rasmussen received his education in Forks, Washington and was a U.S. Army Veteran having served during the Korean Conflict. He was a truck driver and retired in 1989 from Sea-Land Trucking. In 2000 he moved to Cassville from Sterling, Alaska. He was a member of the V.F.W. in Forks, Alaska; the American Legion in Sterling, Alaska; AMVETS in Kenai, Alaska; and the Masonic Lodge in Anchorage, Alaska. Survivors include five sons, three daughters, 28 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, a special lady of 22 years, Alyna "Babe" Newton, and one brother, Richard Rasmussen. The family will gather Saturday, September 16, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Memories Grill in Cassville under the direction of White Funeral Home of Cassville. - He married Roberta L. He served as a Coxswain in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1941 to 1945, in Alaska and the South Pacific. He married Rita Mary Bialke on Sept. 28, 1954. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two infant children, David and Dorothy, and two sisters, Fritzi Johnson and Mary Jo Eerdman. Mary moved to the Jenkins area a little over three years ago due to health reasons to be cared for by her family and extended family. She had two children from her first marriage, five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Jean was married for over 40 years to John Roberts. Together they owned and operated Shell Knob Marine. They had a large group of friends in and around the Shell Knob area. John died in March of 2009. Jean will be cremated. Her final wish was that her ashes and John's be mixed together and scattered "over the top of our mountain". Research Note: He was the son of the late Fred James Rooney, Sr. and Eva Marie (Miller) Rooney. Harold served his country in the Army during World War II. He was honorably discharged February 5, 1946 in Ft. Brag, N.C. at the rank of Staff Sergeant. For many years, Harold was a School Teacher and Elementary Librarian for Monett. He had also operated his father's Texaco distribution service. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Monett, a member of the American Legion Post #91, a member of the Missouri State Teacher's Association as well as the Missouri Democratic Committee. On July 21, 1944 in Charlotte, N.C., Harold and Mary Alice Petteway were united in marriage. They were blessed with over 62 years together until her passing in 2007. With the exception of one brief interval during WW II when they worked together in an ammunition plant in Oklahoma, Frank and Frances Snyder lived most of their married life in Monett. In 1997, after both experienced health problems, they moved to St. Louis, to live with their daughter and son-in-law. During their 57 year residency in Monett, Frank and Frances delivered The Monett Times and Springfield News Leader for many years in Monett and surrounding area. Frank also served as a Monett police officer for many years and was employed by Rocketdyne in Neosho prior to working for the city. Frances was employed as a cashier at the old Moss Market and later completed 25 years of employment for EFCO. In addition, Frances was an accomplished singer winning several awards during her high school years. She continued her singing as a member of many community choirs including First Presbyterian Church in Monett where she and Frank were members for more than 50 years. Frances was also active in many community organizations and especially enjoyed her involvement with the Daughters of the American Revolution. Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, just 11 days prior to her passing, and one brother and sister-in-law: John Lee and Beverly Ann Stair, formerly of Florida. Senator Taylor was a sixth-generation Missourian and was educated in the Sarcoxie Public School system and Missouri Southern University in Joplin. Senator Taylor was preceded in death by his father, Congressman Gene Taylor; his brother-in-law, Buster Cobine; and by his paternal and maternal grandparents. Senator Taylor was a businessman before he began his public service career and managed the family business, Gene Taylor Ford in Sarcoxie, Missouri, and was involved in the beef cattle farming operation. Mr. Taylor began his public service career when he was appointed by former State Treasurer Wendell Bailey as the director of public affairs for Office of Missouri State Treasurer. He was elected to the Missouri House of Representatives in 2002. During his two-year term, he served as the vice-chairman on the Tourism and Cultural Affairs Committee and as a majority member of the House Committee on Appropriations for Transportation and Economic Development and the House Committee on Job Creation and Economic Development. He also served on the Republican Policy Development Committee. In November of 2004 Mr. Taylor was elected to represent Barry, Lawrence, McDonald, Ozark, Stone and Taney counties as the State Senator of the 29th Senatorial District in Missouri's 93rd General Assembly. He was vice-chairman of the Senate Committee on Economic Development, Tourism and Local Government and served on the Senate Committees on Aging, Families, Mental and Public Health, Ways and Means, and Aging. Senator Taylor's legislative priorities this session included ensuring that promises made regarding road improvement projects are kept and that funding was directed to correcting southwest Missouri's transportation problems, protecting democracy by requiring proof of U. S. citizenship before registering to vote, and developing a long-term funding solution to the shortfalls of the prior education budget formula. Senator and Mrs. Taylor have resided on Table Rock Lake at Shell Knob, Missouri, for several years. They are members of several Chambers of Commerce throughout the 29th District, and Farm Bureau. Senator Taylor is past president of the Barry County Republican Club, a member of Shell Knob Lions Club, and is a 32nd Degree Mason and Shriner. The family attended First Baptist Church in Cassville.
