Duane was a 1971 graduate from Hillsdale High School. In 1978, he received his Bachelor of Arts Degree (Biology Major/Chemistry minor) from Western State College of Gunnison, Colorado and he received his master's degree from the University of Colorado Health Science Center in Denver. Duane worked extensively with the Special Olympics and Channel Nine Health Fairs in Colorado. For several years he was a physicians assistant in Colorado for a women's health clinic. Research Note: Barry County Deputy Sheriff Lawrence Kirk Mackey, 34, of Cassville, died Saturday, August 18, at Cox Medical Center South in Springfield due to complications from surgery. He was the son of Rondo and Ellenor Mackey. He received his education in Springfield, then in Crocker, where he graduated from high school. While in high school, he served with the Crocker Volunteer Fire Department. He graduated from the Police Academy at Drury College in Springfield, served as a police officer in Crane, and was currently serving as Deputy Sheriff 59 in Barry County. He was a member of the Crane Masonic Lodge, the Missouri Deputy Sheriff's Association of Southwest Missouri, and the Southwest Missouri Chapter of the Fraternal Order of Police. He married Reyne Sajatovich on September 20, 1997 in Marshfield. Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. at Ava Cemetery in Ava, under the direction of Williamson Funeral Home in Cassville. Preceding him in death were his parents; four brothers and five sisters. Frank grew up and received his education in Ohio. On December 27, 1950 he joined the United States Air Force, serving until November 14, 1954. Later he moved to San Diego where he met Polly and they raised their family. For many years he worked as a pipefitter for Federal Civil Service. After their children were grown, they enjoyed traveling in their motor home and visiting with friends. Fifty-seven years ago, a true love story began in Carthage Missouri when Ray Manley met and married Pat Greene. Ray grew up in Carthage, MO and joined the Army National Guard upon graduating from high school. He attended Missouri Southern College before moving his family to Shell Knob. Ray owned and operated Bridgeview Plumbing there until his retirement in 2003. He was always community minded and served as a Shell Knob Road Commissioner, Director for the Barry Electric Coop, Member of the University of Missouri Extension Board and was currently a member of the Barry County Sheriffs Advisory Board. Research Note: She was the daughter of Harold and Madeline (Hughes) Testerman. She was married to Carl Hancock in 1949 and together they raised their four children on their farm on Flat Creek in Cassville Missouri. After 25 years of marriage to Carl, Pat moved to Monett where she lived for the remainder of her life. Pat had many careers over her lifetime but her favorite was working at Stell's Package. She opened the store every day and loved to interact will all of her longtime customers. She continued to work until her health forced her to retire at 84 years of age. Pat quit school to marry and start her family at the young age of 17. Her only regret was that she didn't finish school and receive her diploma. One of her proudest accomplishments was completing her education and getting her GED. She received her diploma at the age of 61. Pat became a grandmother to seven grandchildren. She preferred to be called granny but somehow it turned in to "Gaggy". She was forever Gaggy to all of her grandchildren as well as her 16 great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren. Pat was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Madeline Testerman, two brothers, Charles and Bill Testerman, one sister, Geri Testerman, her first husband and the father of her children Carl Hancock, her second husband, Joe Mason, her daughter-in-law, Verlane Hancock and her beloved first grandson, Scott Hancock. Mac was the oldest of the children. Mac grew up on a farm as a hard worker in the days of destitution and share cropping. In the days of the military draft he enlisted in the U.S. Navy on April of 1952. After bootcamp he went aboard the ship USS Gregory DD802, which went to Korea and Battle, after a year he was transferred to Seabees, while stationed in the United States. He met and after sometime married Bonnie Lou Gray of Purdy, MO. They were married in Las Vegas, NV on May 28, 1955. Mac spent twenty-three years in the Navy and spent time in Vietnam in 1966, 1967 and short trip in 1970 until transferred to Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean to start construction of air strips which took aircraft within a year. They were married August 6, 1950 and celebrated seventy-two years of marriage and a devoted life to one another until Emma Jean's passing on November 9, 2022. Bob graduated from Monett High School with the class of 1949. He worked for the Gas Service Company (Spire) as a master welder for thirty years. After retiring he and Emma Jean traveled extensively throughout the United States. Bob was never idle, he restored two antique trucks and the McCormick family farm tractor, all of which won several plaques. He then worked fifteen years, part time, delivering parts for IMEC. Bob was a lifelong, active member of the First Presbyterian Church, Monett. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Albert and Lee McCormick; three sisters, Shirley Mourglia, Mamie Lou Lane and Charlotte Hunt. Research Note: He was the son of William and Allie (Meadows) McCullough. He loved tractors and could be found working on them and tinkering with other things. He loved his family. He was the youngest of six children. He attended elementary school at Hendrickson then attended and graduated from Blue Eye High School in 1952. Later he served in the National Guards and attended the U of A in Fayetteville. On June 2, 1956 he was united in marriage to Shirley Ann Warren. Lynn spent most of his life near Viola, MO where he farmed, worked at Ocoma Foods, did carpenter work, built several houses, and did mechanic work. He was a jack of all trades but enjoyed being on his dozer or backhoe most of all. In 1969 Lynn and Shirley opened H and R Block in Berryville where he served many clients and made many friends. He built the current building that houses the main office of Hand R Block on Hwy 62. Lynn and Shirley opened 4 more offices located in Green Forest, Eureka Springs and Huntsville. Lynn also co-owned the Harrison and Yellville offices. In 2016 Lynn and Shirley celebrated their 60th anniversary. He is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, two sisters. On October 3, 1948, in Kansas City, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Shirley Mae Thomas. Preceding him in death were his parents and one brother, Francis Floyd McGuire. Mac, as most people knew him, graduated high school from Hurley, Missouri. He then joined the United States Army, serving in World War II, Korean and Vietnam Wars. He entered the Army on September 22, 1944, and was discharged on September 30, 1964. On March 15, 1996, he received an Official Statement of Awards from the Department of the Army, which took a full page that included a Combat Infantry Badge-2nd Award, Bronze Star, and Purple Heart. After his discharge, he resided in California and in June, 1974, moved from Montebello, California to Shell Knob, Missouri to make his home. He was a member of Central Community United Methodist Church, a charter member of VFW Post 2203, Chosin Few, Ozark Retired Officers Association and Military Order of the Purple Heart. Mike graduated from Ozark High School and then attended Crowder College and Southwest Missouri State receiving his degree in business and culinary arts. After college, Mike worked in Springfield at various restaurants including Hemingway's at Bass Pro and then moved on to Big Cedar Lodge in Branson. In 1993, he moved to Shell Knob and worked as chef at The Docks at Campbell Point, Star Lodge, and was former owner and chef at Tucker's Inn and Icy Maes at Timberoc Village. For the last couple years, he was a chef at Dogwood Canyon. A virtual memorial via Facebook will be held at a later date. Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, Harry Meyer and Robert Meyer and one sister, Betty Thorne. After high school Les joined the United States Army serving during the Vietnam War and later joined the United States Army Reserve. Upon returning home he was employed by the New Mexico and Colorado State Highway Patrol for several years. He then worked at the United States Mint at Denver in Colorado as a police officer for twenty-seven years from where he retired. He had served as treasurer, sergeant at arms, vice president and president of the Colorado Fraternal Order of Police. Les was recognized as one of the top policemen in the United States by the Thousand Points of Light organization. Les moved to this area in 2021 coming from Bennett, Colorado. Research Note: At a very early age he was adopted into the home of William and Clara E. (Charles) Miner in Charleston, IL. Preceding him in death were his parents, William and Clara Elizabeth Miner. He graduated from Charleston High School and attended Eastern Illinois University, graduating with degrees in Physics and Business Management. Lewis achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and was also an avid astronomer. While still in high school he built a small-scale observatory in the yard of his child hood home. Lewis worked as a project manager for several energy and telecommunication companies in France and the United States. He also spent considerable time as a civilian contractor with the Department of Defense and received awards for Military Outstanding Volunteer Service, Global War on Terrorism, Air Force Civilian Achievement, Navy Distinguished Public Service and Armed Forces Civilian Service. One of his achievements was putting together a book (Surviving Hell) detailing his father's experiences as a POW in the Philippines during WWII. His father endured 39 months of captivity and allied bombing of numerous prison ships. Not happy with the first edition he fine-tuned that product to produce a second and finally a third edition which is currently in print. A private family service will be held later. Research Note: She was the daughter of Kenneth and Avo (Cargile) Brown. She was proud to call Cassville home for most of her life. Sue graduated from Cassville High School. She married Bob Mitchell in 1949. Bob and Sue lived briefly in San Diego, CA, where Bob was stationed in the U.S. Navy and Sue worked as a dental assistant. They returned to Cassville in 1953, to begin raising their family. Sue was very involved in multiple aspects of the family's business-The Cassville Democrat; in civic and community events; and with a host of school activities. In addition to working at the newspaper office, she earned her beautician's license and enjoyed making many new acquaintances and helping clients prepare for special occasions or just "take a little off the top". From her high school days through much of her adult life, Sue sang for many weddings, funerals and special events throughout the community. She was a faithful member of the choir at First Christian Church. She sang with the Treble Tones ladies' sextet and performed with the group throughout Southwest Missouri. He served in the North Africa campaign of World War II as a logistics officer in the 15th Army Air Force. He retired from the U.S. Army Reserves as colonel in 1972. He worked for the U.S. Civil Service in CAA/FAA Communications from 1937 until his retirement in 1972. He was a certified commercial pilot and flight instructor for small aircraft. He was active in amateur radio since his boyhood days. He married Louise Moser on August 27, 1937, in Berrien County, Michigan, and she preceded him in death. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Esther and Estella Anderson, and three brothers, Hugh, Dow, and Ira. It was his wish that there was no visitation or services, and that his ashes be scattered over his beloved Missouri Ozarks. Cremation was under the direction of Williamson Funeral Home of Cassville. Nov. 3, 2020 Research Note: He was the son of Dewayne and Linda (Page) Moreland. Russ was an adored husband and life-long soulmate to Kellie Dawn Moreland. After graduating Crane High School in 1988, he went on to Springfield, Missouri, to attend Southwest Missouri State University (now Missouri State University), where he fell in love with and married his lifelong partner, best friend and confidante, Kellie. He obtained his Bachelor of Science in Education in 1993. Russ began his career teaching sixth grade in Monett and coaching junior high basketball. Later, at Marionville High School, he coached and taught in the classroom. Later, he served as principal at Pierce City High School, where, under his leadership, the school received Gold Star and Blue Ribbon awards. He then became Pierce City's Superintendent, receiving the honor of Distinction in Performance year after year. After serving as director of Scott Regional Technology in Monett for two years, he resumed his role as Superintendent at Pierce City. In 2018, Russ was unanimously selected as the Superintendent of Schools in Monett, where he continued his noble efforts, and, of late, admirably dealt with the unrelenting rigors brought on by the pandemic. Russ was mindful of, and diligently tended to, his own education as well, going on to earn his Masters Degree in Educational Administration, Secondary Level, from Southwest Missouri State in 2001, his Specialist in Education from William Woods University in 2006, and was working toward his PhD in Educational Leadership at the time of his passing. He served on the Boards of the Monett Area Community Foundation, the Monett YMCA, the Monett Chamber Foundation, the Monett Chamber of Commerce, the Southwest Center of Educational Excellence, and the Clark Center. He was an active member and past President of the Southwest District of MASA (Missouri Association of School Administrators), an active member of the Monett Kiwanis, the AASA (School Superintendent's National Association), the Big 8 Conference of Superintendents, and was President of the Spring Valley Conference. A public memorial will be held at Burl Fowler Stadium in Monett on Saturday, 7 November 2020 at 11:00 a.m. The family asks that masks be worn and social distancing observed as Russ would have wished. In 1965, Berniece opened Mode-O-Day, later called Fashion Crossroads, in Monett. She also hosted annual bridal showcases, displaying everything needed for a wedding. She faithfully worked in her business, as well as the office operations of Morris Ditching Service until her health prevented her from this just over a year ago. Her husband was Olen Morris. According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, Leah Moss, 50, of Cassville, was swimming in Table Rock Lake northwest of Point 21, near Viola in Stone County, at about 3 p.m. when she began to feel ill. Moss exited the water and an acquaintance transported her to the Central Crossing Fire Station. Linda moved to Exeter from Colorado twenty years ago. Following her move from Colorado, Linda fell in love with bowling and participated in many tournaments nationwide. Being the skilled bowler she was, she won 6th place at the NAVI national tournament in Las Vegas, Nevada. She later began participating in a billiard league where she won top female awards numerous years. She was united in marriage to Robert Moss on April 6, 1983 in Aurora, Colorado. Research Note: Son of Ernest and Maxine Moudy. Clarence was an Army veteran and became a pilot after being discharged. He became an aero crop duster and worked primarily in New Mexico and Texas. He had a keen interest in horses and raised, raced and bred thoroughbreds. He lived in Spearville, Kansas, for a time and moved to Perry, Oklahoma, where he lived for many years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Leona Florene (Fagg) (Hunt) Moudy, his parents Ernest and Maxine Moudy, by three sisters, Joy, Joyce and Ernestine Moudy and three brothers, Ralph, Larry, and Walter F. Bill joined the Air Force in 1950, spending 20 years serving in Viet Nam, Guam, Japan, Aleutian Islands and several stateside assignments. He retired as a Master Sergeant. Bill married Carolyn Bennett in El Reno, Oklahoma on January 12, 1952. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Lee Ray, Edward, Raymond and Heywood and a sister, Geneva. Bill retired in 1970, moving his family to Golden. He and Carolyn volunteered on the Eagle Rock Fire Department for over 20 years. He served as fireman, board member and officer, first responder, and after courses at MSSU in Joplin was an EMT on the Eagle Rock ambulance. Bill was also a reserve deputy with the Barry County Sheriff Department for 25 years, serving as court bailiff, search and rescue, and drug search and destroy teams. Scott's very first love was his work with cleft babies and creating the appliances that allowed them to eat. He owned and ran his own dental lab for 30 years. Subsequent to graduating high school in Miller, Missouri, Donnie enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served his country proudly from 1956 to 1960. On July 16, 1960, Donnie was united in marriage to Bonnie Einspahr, the love of his life, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Donnie was a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge 165 A.F. and A.M. in Collinsville, Oklahoma, and the Fairview Antique Car Club, and Zion United Church in Stotts City. He also worked for the Barry County Sheriff's Office, Monett Police Department and the Lawrence County Sheriff's Office. After retirement from American Airlines, Donnie continued using his pilot license to fly for the Missouri conservation department, working as a firewatch pilot in the Mark Twain National Forrest and all of Barry County. In addition to his parents, Donnie was preceded in death by one grandson, Daniel Neely; and two sisters, Marilyn Garrison and Linda Neely. Around 8:10 a.m., a 2015 Kia Optima drove into the path of a 2012 Chevrolet truck, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Susan Neely, of Pierce City, Missouri, was the driver of the Kia. Her vehicle was headed eastbound while the other vehicle was heading northbound. She was pronounced dead at the scene. He served in the United States Navy in the Pacific on two aircraft carriers, the Commencement Bay in WWII and the Bairoko during the Korean War. His dream was to become a musical conductor, but he had to leave the Music Conservatory of Los Angeles to serve in the Korean War. Patricia grew up and received her education in Nebraska, graduating from North High School in Omaha. For several years she resided in Knob Noster, Missouri and moved to Shell Knob in 1981.
