SSW: Lizzie - Research Note: Son of Daniel Warren and Columbia Ferguson. - Wheaton Journal, Oct. 29, 1920 - “Cap” Warren a prosperous farmer and highly respected citizen of the Shoal Creek neighborhood east of here died last Sunday Oct. 24, 1920 after a lingering illness of several months from typhoid fever. Elias Hunter Warren was born Aug. 3, 1883 and was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Warren, old and highly respected citizen of Liberty township, and died Oct. 24, 1920 of typhoid fever, age 37 years, 2 months and 29 days at his home near Corsicana, leaving a wife and five children, three sisters and one brother, Jesse, surviving him. He was married Dec. 25, 1904 to Miss Lizzie Garrison a member of a well known and highly respected family, who is bowed down with grief over the passing of her devoted husband. May the God of the universe guard and protect her and aid her in the directing and raising of her children. A very large number of sorrowing friends and neighbors attended the funeral services at the Concord Church conducted by Chas. Bessie departed this life Sept. 29, 1900, age 5 years, 10 months and 24 days. Little Grace followed them Oct. 10, 1900. She lived here 1 year, 2 months and 19 days. The two former were sick three days only and the latter five days. Short was their stay with us, and but thank God they are now in Heaven, where no sad experience will ever come, but to live with and learn of Him who "Took little children in His arms and blessed them." and to associate with those loved ones who were "Washed in the blood of the Lamb" that part of the family spoken of in Eph. 3:15. Heart failure was the cause of death. - June 27, 1912, Thursday, Cassville Republican - Miss Tennessee Warren was born Dec. 26, 1847, died May 22, 1912. She was a daughter of Jesse and Hannah Warren, born and reared at the old Warren homestead at the head of Shoal Creek where she spent the greater part of her life. At the death of her mother, she lived with her sister, Mrs. Amelia Birkes, at the old home place for one year after which they moved to Exeter, living together two years. The last 19 years of her life she spent with her sister, Mrs. W. H. McClure at Exeter. She leaves to mourn her departure, three brothers and three sisters, D. B. Warren, J. A. Warren, and W. M. SSW: Eva L. - Research Note: Son of Jesse Warren and Hannah Bowman, both born TN. Eva Warren of Exeter, MO was the informant on the death certificate. - Cassville Democrat, May 26, 1928 - W. M. Warren, old and highly respected citizen of the Shoal Creek locality, west of Exeter, passed away on Saturday, May 19, 1928, at the age of 73 years, 8 months and 19 days. He died on the old farm home where he was born, He was born Sept. 2, 1853, and was the son of Jesse and Hannah Warren. On Sept. 24, 1885 he was married to Eva Antle. To this union eight children were born, 5 of which have gone before. He leaves to mourn his death, his wife, one daughter, Mrs. L. W. Hoffman of Mason City, Iowa; Arthur of Oilton, Okla., and Joe at home. One sister, Mrs. Amelia Birkes of Exeter, also survives him. Mr. Warren was a highly respected citizen and neighbor. He stated to his wife before his death that he did not fear death. He made a profession of faith some years ago but did not unite with any church organization, but expressed his regret in doing so. Funeral services were conducted at the Concord Church near his home, Monday afternoon, May 21, by Rev. Chas Vanzandt. Burial in Concord Cemetery under the direction of Blankenship and Barr Funeral Directors. Mr. Warren was one of the County’s substantial citizens and was well and favorably known throughout the country, where he had lived all his life, for his honest, straight forward dealings with his fellow men. SSW: E. J. - Research Note: Son of Oliver Woods and Nancy B. Haynes. Lawrence County Historical Society Bulletin - Andrew Pinckney Woods along with his wife, Elizabeth Jane (McCall) Woods, and their four daughters moved to Texas after the birth of Sarah Lavina in 1859 in Missouri. The four daughters who were listed were Nancy Jane, Margaret Adeline, Mary Elizabeth, and Sarah Lavina. Two more daughters were born while they were living in Texas. Emma May was born in September, 1861, and Zipporah was born in May, 1864. They must have waited out the Civil War years in Texas because they were back in Missouri for the 1870 census. Andrew's father, Oliver Woods, was compelled to leave Lawrence County, Missouri at the age of 76 after the 1860 presidential election. During the war between the states, he was a strong Union man and was advised to leave Lawrence County, which was over run by Confederates at the time. He was one of 14 people in Lawrence County who had voted for Abraham Lincoln. Oliver was shown as living with one of his sons, John Blackburn Woods, in Mount Vernon, Lawrence County, Missouri on the 1860 census. Oliver moved soon after this census to live with one of his daughters and her family. Oliver died in 1863 in Centerville, Appanoose County, Iowa. The remains were brought to Exeter Thursday night and interred near Rocky Comfort. Mrs. Woods remains were accompanied by her daughter, Mrs. Joshua Montgomery. Mrs. Woods was the mother of Mesdames Hugh Phillips, Keller, Robert and Joshua Montgomery. She was a sister of the late Dr. Marcus David Lafayette McCall and was an aunt of Mrs. S. P. Rosenberry of Exeter. During her residence here she was one of this sections most highly respected citizens. - Andrew P. Research Note: Her death certificate reads that she was single, and that her father was James Woodward and her mother's maiden name was (Elizabeth) Montgomery, both born in TN. Cause of death was given as cancer of the right breast. - Cassville Republican ,December 14, 1911 - Polly Woodward was born in Ray County, Tennessee, Feb. 10th, 1837. Died Dec. 2nd 1911, aged 74 years, 9 months and 22 days. She leaves four sisters, Mrs. Jane Howerton of Purdy, Elizabeth, Dorcas and Tennessee of Exeter, besides a large number of relatives. She was converted in early life and joined the New Hope Baptist Church, afterwards transferred for membership to the Liberty Hill Church. She loved her church and all Christian people and said during her sickness that she wanted her friends to meet her in Heaven. She was a daughter of the late James and Betsy Woodward, old time and highly respected citizens of this county, and leaves one brother and four sisters to mourn her death. She had been a member of the C. P. Church for 40 years and was a good citizen. Rev. Robt. Wooten, died Nov. 5, age 18 years, 7 months and 20 days. She professed faith in Christ Oct. 1890, and joined the M. E. Church south in March 1801, in which she lived faithfully until death. Her remains were followed by the bereft family and her many sorrowing friends to Concord where her funeral was preached by Rev. H. Pinkston, from Amos v8 and Deut. xii 9, after which her body was interred in the Concord Cemetery. Son of James Stewart Wooten and mother not known. H. H. Wooten of Exeter, MO was the informant. - Wheaton Journal, June 28, 1928 - OLD-TIME WHEATON CITIZEN DIES: James D. Wooten, an old and respected citizen of the county, died at his home in Wheaton, June 19, 1928. His death came suddenly. He was born in Bradley County, Tenn. February 15, 1836. He was 92 years, 4 months and 4 days old. He came to this county with his parents when a young man and had resided here a greater part of his life. He was married to Mary M. Price when a young man. To this union six children were born, four of whom with his wife preceded him in death, those surviving him are, Mrs. Mary C. Yarnall of Exeter, Mo. and Horace Wooten also of Exeter, Mo. He was later married to Mrs. Mary Hackwith, who also survives him. He was converted at an early age and united with the United Methodist Church. He was a Lieutenant in the Southern army and only one member of his Company is now living, who is Jack McCary. He held the office of assessor and sheriff of Barry County. He leaves his wife, son and daughter, a number of grand children, one great-great grand child and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his passing. Funeral services were conducted at the Concord Church Wednesday afternoon, June 20, by Rev. Chas. R. Wreck: Harlan Yarnall, third son of Mrs. and Mrs. Henry Yarnall of near Exeter, was killed Friday night in a railroad wreck in Iowa. The only report of the death received here is that he was at the place of duty as head brakeman on the train and that a water spout had weakened a bridge which gave way as the train passed over it causing the wreck and young Yarnall's death. Harlan was about 20 years old and single. He was born and reared near Exeter.
