COHOON/CAHOON/WILLEY

Someone recently emailed me regarding a lookup in the "Memorial Record of Faribault, Martin, Watonwan and Jackson Counties, Minnesota." Later that day, my computer crashed, and I lost all unanswered emails. The subjects of the lookup request were COHOON/CAHOON and WILLEY, as I recall. Since I dont have the requesters name/address, I will post the findings here in hopes that the person still gets an answer. The findings were very meager unfortunately. No CAHOON/COHOON is mentioned in the book. And only one WILLEY. The entry is within a bio sketch on Perrin M. Marston, and says, "Perrin M. Marston was born in the province of Quebec, Canada, June 30, 1855, the youngest son of the seven children of Samuel and Sarah (WILLEY) Marston." (page 545). Im sorry I was not able to help. FREDERIKSEN

Ewart Frederiksen of Madelia, MN. Moved to MN from Iowa....He had at least one brother and one sister...his sister was my step-grandmother, Ruth Frederiksen, married Vegor Larson sometime in the 1940's. She had no children. She came from the Lake City, Iowa area, lived in Calhoun County Iowa while married to my grandfather, Vegor Larson, who predeceased her. She died in Sac City, Iowa in 1968 or 1969, I bleieve. The reason I am trying to find her heirs si that I have old pictures and scrapbook items which I would love to give to someone who was in her family. She and her brother Ewart apparently had a "falling out" due to her selling their father's cattle, or some such thing.... She longed to have contact with her brothers, but there never was any resolution. ( I think they were all stubborn!) My father passed away nearly two years ago, and I have been "the keeper" of Ruth's few possessions. If you can help me, I'd be so appreciative! Ewart was born 6/4/1898, and died June 1970, as far as I know. He was married to Wilma, and they are buried in Madelia, MN, Riverside Cemetery. I am also trying to find information about a "Leland Frederiksen". I appreicate your help! Kathryn Wenzel 6 April 2009

HANSON

I am working on the genealogy bygdebok (county history book) for Brnny in Nordland Norway. A family who came from Lom Oppland and also returned there had a daughter born in Brnny:

(Hanna) Severine Sandal born 4 Feb. 1841, dtr. of Syver Sevaldsen and Magnhild Olsdatter Horn Brnny. Syver drowned just before (Hanna) Severine was born, and the mother and children moved back to Lom. (Hanna) Severine came to America (Wisconsin) in 1869 and married probably there about 1870 Albert Hanson. They then moved to near Odin, Watonwan Co. MN. Children:

Hans A. Hanson born ca. 1871 Wisconsin; Syvert Hanson born Sept. (1872-3) Minnesota; Tholine/Toline Hanson born Sept. 1875 Minnesota.

The family lived in or near Odin, Watonwan Co. in 1880, 1885, 1900, 1910. I believe the boys also stayed in that county and married and had families. The main thing we need is the death of (Hanna) Severine, called Syverine in Minnesota. She was born 1841 and was alive in 1910. Albert can have died in 1917. They should be buried there. Margaret Miller 17 March 2011

HARDER,Jacob

I am having a terrible time tracing my great grandfather Jacob A Harder of Butterfield and his father Abraham. Would also like to be in touch with the living descendants of his many siblings, at least one of whom is also from Butterfield. Brita Andersdotter 15 September 2010

HAUGEN

I am searching for possible descendants of Mr. and Mrs. Tollef K. Haugen who in 1894 moved from Albert Lea to St. James. They were both born around 1860. Mrs. Haugen's first name was Dorothea or just Thea, sometimes mentioned as Dorothy, and her maiden name was Christopherson. She was born in Toten, Norway, but came as an infant with her parents to Minnesota. The Christophersons resided in Newry Township, Freeborn Co., Minnesota. To my knowledge, Mr. Haugen worked as a banker in St. James. T. K. Haugen siblings were in a different part of Minnesota (Freeborn Co.) -- their names were Anders, Ole, Thomas, Johan, Ida. I am related to Dorothea, not to Tollef. If Tollef and Dorothea stuck with Norwegian name traditions and named their children after the grandparents, then you could look for Knut Haugen, Christian Haugen, Karen Haugen, maybe Louis or Lewis Haugen -- all would have to be born after 1880. Please respond to Knut O. Ronold, Hovik, Norway 22 Apr 1999

HOFFMAN, Julia

I've "rescued" an old photograph of Julia HOFFMAN of Wabasso, MN which was taken at the Hoffman's Studio there. The photograph appears to have been taken in the early 1900's with Julia in her teens at the time. Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information regarding Julia and her family: Julia B. HOFFMAN was b. Feb 1888 in Minnesota to parents John J. HOFFMAN Jr. (b. 1858) and Anna M. STEINBACH (b. 1862). Julia married Joseph Stephen KRSKA (1886-1966) and together they had a son, Melvin J. KRSKA (1925-1997). By 1920 it appears that Julia was married and living in Sioux City, IA.

Census records provide the following details: 1900 census of Watonwan, MN: Joseph HOFFMAN, age 42, born Mar 1858, married 14 years, born MN, parents born Germany, a Watchmaker. Anna HOFFMAN, wife, age 33, born Dec 1877, married 14 years, 2 children/1 living, born WI, parents born Germany. Julia HOFFMAN, dau, age 12, born Feb 1888, born MN, at School.

1910 census of Wabasso, MN: John J. HOFFMAN, age 52, married 24 years, born MN, parents born Germany, a Jeweler. Anna M. HOFFMAN, wife, age 48, married 24 years, 2 children/1 living, born WI, parents born Germany. Julia B. HOFFMAN, dau, age 22, born MN, a Music Teacher

I am hoping to locate someone from this family so that the photograph can be returned to their care. If you are a member of this family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley Cardiel 24 Feb 2015

JOHNSON,Charles Julius

My paternal great father Charles Julius JOHNSON (b. May 1852 in Dorsland, Sweden) emigrated to the US in 1857 with his parents Johanas and Christine JOHNSON. The family settled in Long Lake TWP. Some family history gives Christine's maiden name as HANSEN/HANSON, that she was Johanas' second wife, and Johanas' had at least two more children Andrew and Anna. Johanas' neighbors called him "The Lawyer". Johanas' son Charles Julius JOHNSON married Karen (Kate, Katherine) about 1876. They had nine children: Charlotte Emily, Clara M., Julia "Dudy", Charles Walter, Harriett, Mable Eleanor, Harry, Frank Joseph, Ray Sterling.

The 1880 US Census for Long Lake Twp reports 3 additional JOHNSON families who were neighbors of Charles and Karen, who had also emigrated from Sweden. WETHAL

I'm tracking my family, Lauritz WETHAL from Butterfield. His parents followed him from Norway named Ole ENGEBRETSON (en) or Engebret OLSON supposedly buried in Long Lake Cemetery but I could not find the headstones which have probably been covered over this past century. Is there a cemetery plat map available? I plan to go to Norway next summer 2002 and it would be very helpful to have birth/marriage information. The name WETHAL is a spin-off of the town of Vettal Norway. Any help you can give me will be most appreciaated. Ted Esau 23 Dec 2001
