WELCH, Samuel Durgen, was born 22 May 1837 in Russeltown, Canada, son of Samuel D. Welch, Sr. and Elizabeth (Lizzie) Waite. He was the first of many children born to this union. "Uncle Sam" as he was fondly called by both young and old settled in Guilford Township, Wabasha County approximately 1860. He married Elizabetta Amelia Oliver in 1866 and one child was born to this union, Mary Elizabeth, born 1867, who married Levi Scruby, of Zumbro Falls, MN. Samuel Welch held many positions in the town of Guilford and was intricately involved in the settlement of that town. He was elected first Mayor of Guilford, and served on many town boards. Mr. Welch fought in the Civil War, was captured at Murfreesboro, released and mustered out as Sergeant at the close of the war. Samuel D. Welch died in 1922 at the ripe old age of 85 and is buried alongside Elizabetta, who died in 1908 in the Zumbro Falls Cemetery. A very colorful character, his obituary speaks to his wonderful character, his amiability and his popularity among all that knew him.

WARREN, Margaret Ann (nee Oliver), was the first daughter born to Orris and Martha Oliver in Clinton County, Rouse's Point, NY in December of 1844. She arrived in Wabasha County with her parents in 1858 and settled in Guilford Township. When she grew to adulthood, she met and married Franklin ("Doc") Warren in 1860 and the following children were born to them: Martha born 1861, married Oliver P. Atkinson, a successful farmer in Zumbro Falls, Wabasha County, Zilla born 1863, married John Ritter and resided in Farmington, MN. Orris born 1866, who resided at Shell Lake, WI, Walter born 1867, Viola born 1875, who married an Adams from Zumbro Falls, Eva born 1877, married Henry Petersdorf, Floyd born 1879, who resided at Bird Island, MN, Edgar born 1881, Marion born 1883. Franklin Warren purchased the George Fanning homestead at Hyde Park, where they family resided for many years. Margaret Ann Warren died in 1908; Frank Warren in 1911. Both are buried in the Zumbro Falls Cemetery.

WOODBURY, L.D., dealer in agricultural implements, also musical instruments, Zumbrota village; was born in New Hampshire in 1817; moved with parents, when young to Vermont; thence in 1832 to Orleans county, VT, where he married Catherine Glidden, February 1841; she was born in that county in 1819. Moved to Concord, Mass; thence to Hollister, Mass; from there to Orleans county, VT; thence to New York, June 1861; thence in 1862 to Ohio; thence to Illinois; thence in February of 1864 to Mazeppa, Wabasha County, MN, remained until 1867, purchased a farm; remained there until 1876, then moved to his village and established his present business. His children are Mirnett, Edwin, Viola, Levi and Katie.
