Lancaster, Minn. - Gary Whitlock, 72, Lancaster, died at the Kittson Memorial Hospital in Hallock, May 24, 2008.

Marion Gerald , "Gary" Whitlock was born in Alliance, Neb. Nov. 15, 1935 to Francis and Maude (Archer) Whitlock.

He grew up in Alliance and graduated from high school there in 1953.

On June 26, 1955 he married Margie Bartels at Alliance. Gary worked 14 years for Burlington Northern Railroad in Alliance and farmed as well. In 1972 he moved to Lancaster, Minn. where he and Marge farmed and ranched in Richardville Township. Gary served on the Richardville township board for 20 years. He was also on the Co-op board and was chairman of the Lancaster Covenant Church. He served as presidentof the Lancaster Lions Club and drove school bus for 31 years. He enjoyed many years of square dancing in the North Star Square Dancing Club. He and Marge were instrumental in forming this club.

Gary and Marge owned the restaurant in Lancaster for three years prior to their retirement in 1997. Gary truly enjoyed hunting season and playing cards. He also enjoyed reading and history. In 2004 they moved to Mesa, Ariz. He had been in failing health for the past year.

Family members include his wife, Margie; a daughter, Julie (Galen)Nordin, Lancaster, a daughter-in-law, Faye Whitlock, Lancaster; grandchildren, Mike Whitlock, Josh (Rebecca) Whitlock, Shari (Jim) Hilman, Seth Whitlock, all of Lancaster; Justin (Jessie) Nordin, Minneapolis, MN; Jason (Cassie) Nordin, Grand Forks, ND and Ashley Nordin, East Grand Forks, MN; nine great grandchildren; sisters, Jean Lafferty, Arnold Maryland, and Pat Julius, Napa, Calif.; a brother, Bob (Pat) Whitlock, Alliance, Neb.; his mother-in-law, Delia Bartels, Alliance; sister-in-law, Betty Wills, Alliance and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Doug; a sister, Garnet; father-in-law, Bill Bartels; brothers-in-law, Jack Julius, Frank Lafferty and Bud Wills.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 27, 2008, 2 p.m. in the Lancaster Covenant Church. Interment was in Riverview Memorial Garden Cemetery.

Rev. Tim Bhajjan, presided; special music by Faye Whitlock, Mike Whitlock, Galen Nordin and Ashley Nordin.

Honorary pallbearers were Gary's grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Joey Wilebski, Randy Nordin, Gary Burton, Laverne Isaacson, Gordon Bernstrom and Greg Wilson.
