Hallock, Minn. - Avis Reese, 95, Hallock, died at the Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008.

Avis Lucille Harper was born Sept. 9, 1912 at Windom, Minn. to Manley and Tora (Anderson) Harper. She moved with her family to Kittson County in 1920 and settled near Lake Bronson.

Avis attended school in Lancaster, Minn. and graduated from high school there.

She married Robert Phillips in 1931 and in 1936 they moved north of Lancaster. Robert died in 1956. Avis moved to Hallock in 1957 and worked at the Red Barn Cafe and the Golden Rule Store. In 1962 she married Arnold Reese. He died in 1968.

Avis was a secretary at the State Farm Agency for many years and retired in the 1970's. She was very active in Royal Neighbors and named an Outstanding Senior Citizen in 2006. Avis has been a resident of the nursing home for the past three years.

Family members include three sons, Harold (Joan) Phillips, Hallock, Russell (Mary) Phillips, Lancaster and Gary (Linda) Phillips in Ecuador; numerous grand, great grand and great great grandchildren; and a sister, Orpha (Vendell) Holmgren. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Ray; two grandsons, Dale and Scott; and a sister, Mildred.
