Don't know how this fits in:

Daniel and Karen Anderson and children, Ricka, George, Esther, Robert, Dan, and Teckla moved to the Nelson Swamp area east of Strandquist. The father died suddenly from having drank some swamp water. David was born soon after. John Koland married Karen Anderson. Ole, Hans, Joe, Aldrich and Astrid were born to them.

Melsie Gerhardt

Clarkston, Wash. - Melsie Johnson Gerhardt died Oct. 25, 2007.

She was born Feb. 7, 1918 in Canon Township North of Lake Bronson, MN on the Matts Nordin farm to Albin and Christine Johnson.

Her grandmother, Ingeborg Nordin, took care of her and her three siblings for two years after her mother died in 1922. She was then placed with Martin and Alice Lager and raised with Dorothy Lager Locken as foster sisters.

She was raised in Lake Bronson, graduating from Lake Bronson High School in 1936. She attended both Augsburg College in St. Paul, Minn. and Moorhead State Teacher's College.

She returned to the Canon Township to teach in a little country schoolhouse for one year and then taught school in a town in central Minnesota. She and a girlfriend then decided to move west to the Seattle area for a new adventure. She worked first in a restaurant where she met her husband, Gary Gerhardt.

She travelled to Anchorage, Alaska where she married Gary Aug. 21, 1941. They spent a year in Alaska before returning to the Seattle area where they lived and worked at Boeing until 1950, living near her oldest brother, Alvin, and his family.

Eventually Melsie and Gary moved to El Cajon and later to La Mesa, Calif., enjoying the sunshine and the steady employment of Convair for many years. Melsie retired in 1973 and continued living in the same home, enjoying family and friends who would inevitably come to visit and spend time with them in the San Diego area.

She was also Gary's loving caregiver for many years. She enjoyed travelling, visiting family in different parts of the country, and even made a trip to Sweden with her niece, Lana Daugherty, during her retirement years.

She moved to Clarkston, Wash. July 2006 and lived there with Dorothy Locken and with the care of her niece, Barbara Myklebust, until her death.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gary, July 17, 1983, and her brothers Alvin Johnson of Bremerton, Wash. and Mephord Johnson of Portland, Ore.

She is survived by her sister, Clarice Foster of Battlecreek, Mich. and foster sister Dorothy Locken of Clarkston, Wash. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews including Ed Foster of Harrisville, Mich. and Sheri Foster of Battlecreek, Mich.; Lana Gillis and Jeri Stockdale of Poulsbo, Wash., Mark Johnson of Portland, Ore., Barbara Myklebust of Clarkston, Wash., and Mary Brelie of Mora, Minn.

She will be remembered for her humor and wit, her sharp mind, and her willingness to embark on new adventures. She is sorely missed, but we are thankful for all the years she had, that she is no longer in pain, and that she has found God's peace.

Dorothy Locken will be travelling to Minnesota July 19, and with her daughter, Mary Brelie, will drive to Lake Bronson to bring Melsie's remains home. They will be staying with a niece and hope to have a small informal service for Melsie at the cemetery while visiting.
