Josephine McEwen
Josephine McEwen, 94, died Monday, Feb. 28, 1994 at Northwest Medical Center, Thief River Falls. Josephine Amelia Jensen was born Sept. 18, 1899 to the late Iver and Patrina (Olson) Jensen. They homsteaded in the Andrews area where she attended school and grew to adulthood. She was united in marriage to Lorne McEwen Dec. 11, 1918. The couple farmed and bought grain for the Andrews Grain Company in Herrick, ND until 1930, when they moved to Humboldt where they spent most of their lives. They were involved in many community functions.
Lorne died Nov. 18, 1954 and Josephine moved to Hallock and resided there until 1980 when she took up residence at the Riverside Terrace, Thief River Falls.
She was a member of the Senior Citizens, Redeemer Lutheran Church and Sons of Norway.
Survivors include four daughters; Doris West, Santa Maria, CA; Helen Erickson, Roseau; Elizabeth Deere, San Diego, CA; and Ortie Kinshella and her husband Warren, San Diego, CA; two sons: Lorne McEwen, Emeraldo and Neil McEwen and his wife, Maxine, Thief River Falls, 16 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, one daughter, one son, one grandchild, one great-grandchild; her parents, three sisters, one brother and three sons-in-law.
Funeral services were held March 5, 1994 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls.
The Reverend Neil Gladen officiated. Music was provided by Joyce Halbasch, organist and Reverend Neil and Karen Gladen, vocalists. Honorary pallbearers were Connie Peoples, Robert Deere, Howard Moose, Lorne P., John, James, Thomas and Gregory McEwen, Gretchen Felton, Patricia Hamilton, Betty Lessard, Craig Kinchella, Jeffrey West, Thomas Deere, Dorinda Hagen and Odella Fuqua.
The Green Funeral Home, Thief River Falls, was in charge of arrangements.
