Edward Keeley

Temple, Minn. - Edward Keeley, 78, Killeen, died April 20, 2003 in Temple.

Edward James Keeley, the son of Thomas and Grace Keeley, was born Sept. 1, 1924 in Hallock, where he was raised and educated.

Keeley had served 30 years in the U.S. Army before he retired in 1973 after duty in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War, with his latest assignment as command sergeant major of Yuma Proving Grounds, Yuma, Ariz.

His military awards and decorations include the Bronze Star medal with two oak leaf clusters, the Army Commendation medal with two oak leaf clusters, the Good Conduct Medal six times, the National Defense Service medal with one oak leaf cluster, the Army Occupation medal, the World War II Victory medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign medal, the Vietnam Service medal, the Korean Service medal, the Vietnam Campaign medal with 60 device, Meritorious Commendation medal, the Combat Infantry badge and the Expert Rifle badge with the Carbine Marksman Bar and the Caliber .45 Pistol Marksman Bar.

Keely had lived in Killeen since 1973 and was a member of Knights of Columbus and St. Joseph Catholic Church.

He retired from Central Texas College in 1984.

Family survivors include his wife Lonnie Keeley, Killeen; a son Edward J. Keeley II of Houston; a sister Katherine Keeley, Minneapolis.

Services were 10 a.m., Wednesday, April 23, St. Joseph Catholic Church, Killeen, with the Rev. Ray Clancy officiating.

Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home, Killeen, was in charge of arrangements.
