William and Marion Davnie
Anchorage, Alaska residents William and Marion Davnie died as a result of an automobile accident May 23, 1997.
Marion Davnie, 79, was born April 8, 1918, in Cottage Grove, to Norris and Alma Straate Thompson.
She received her bachelor's of science degree in home economics from the University of Minnesota. She worked for a number of years for Dayton's Department Store in Bloomington, and retired in 1980.
William Davnie, 73, was born July 10, 1923, in Hallock, to William and Minnie Olsen Davnie.
He received his bachelor's of science degree in pharmacy from North Dakota State University. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was stationed at Attu.
He also served during the Korean conflict. Davnie worked for Bristol-Meyers- Squibb & Sons for 40 years, then for Bracco Diagnostics in Anchorage from 1995 until his death.
The Davnies came to Alaska in 1983. They were members of the Immanuel Presbyterian Church, where Mr. Davnie served as an elder and Mrs Davnie as a deaconess.
William was a member of the Alaska State Pharmacy Association and served as president and executive secretary. He was also a life member of the Elks Lodge. He enjoyed fishing and traveling, and telling jokes and stories.
Marion was a member of PEO and Newcomers, and enjoyed playing bridge, gourmet cooking and traveling.
The Davnies are survived their son and daughter-in-law, William and Charlotte Davnie and their children Elizabeth and Andrea, Arlington, VA: daughter and son-in-law, Alaine and Robert Duncan, and their children, William and Alison, Hyattsville, MD; son and his partner, James Davnie and Cora Letofsky, Minneapolis; sisters, Jean Elmore, McAllen, Texas, and Ann Drinkwalter, San Diego; brother, Peter Thompson, Cottage Grove.
A celebration of their lives was 7 p.m. Sunday, June 1 at Trinity Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Jay Olsen Ketchum, Immanuel Presbyterian Church officiated. Additional services will be at Oak Grove Presbyterian Church, Bloomington, at a later date.
Arrangements were by Evergreen Memorial Chapels.
