Battle Lake Review, Amor, June 14, 1901
"August Johnson died at his home in Sverdrup last Sunday, June 9.  The remains were interred at the Amor cemetery June 11, funeral services were conducted by Rev. Douglas of Maine and Rev. Moody of Eagle Lake.  The Maine quartette rendered a few appropriate songs.  The funeral was held in the Swedish Lutheran Church.  The deceased was a young man of 24 years of age and liked by everyone who knew him.  He leaves an aged mother and sister to mourn his loss, whom have the heartfelt sympathy of the community.

Fergus Falls Weekly Journal, Maine Township, May 4, 1911
"Esther Johnson, one of our county teachers, died at her home in Phelps Wednesday night of tuberculosis which she has been suffering with for a year or more.  She leaves an aged mother.  The funeral was from the Amor church Saturday afternoon, was buried in the Amor cemetery by the side of her brother August who died of the same disease about twelve years ago."

"Miss Esther Johnson died at her home in Phelps, Wednesday night of consumption and was buried in the Amor cemetery Saturday, besides her father and brother August who died a few years ago from the same trouble.  Esther was a girl well liked by every one, much sympathy is extended to her aged mother who is left alone and who has taken such loving care of Esther during her illness."
