Vivian E. Westby

Funeral services were held today for Vivian (Bub) Westby, 59, 5737 Standish Ave., Minneapolis, former Worthington man who died Saturday at a Minneapolis hospital following a lengthy illness with lung cancer.

Services at 1 p.m. were from the Werness Brothers Mortuary, Minneapolis. Interment was in Fort Snelling National Cemetery.

Mr. Westby was born Dec. 5, 1904 at Bigelow, the son of Soren and Mary Westby. A graduate of Worthington High School, he worked several years for the Nobles County highway department before entering college.

In 1930, he received a degreeĀ in pharmacy from South Dakota State College, Brookings. He was employed as a pharmacist at the Ahlf Drug Store here for ten years before entering the armed services.

After his military discharge in 1943, he secured a job as pharmacist with a Minneapolis firm, remaining there 20 years when ill health forced his retirement.

He and Olive Lickliter, a former Worthington High School teacher, were married there July 24, 1943. Mr. Westby was a member of Hope Lutheran Church of Nokomis Park, of the state Pharmaceutical Association, of Mounted Commandery No. 23, Eagles Aerie 247 and of the Masonic and Odd Fellows lodges at Worthington.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, James and Jon; one brother Leon, Sioux Falls; and three sisters, Mrs. William Cosgrove, Dundee, and Mrs. Robert Yeske and Mrs G.A. Miller, Bigelow.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, and two brothers.
