Round Lake – Technical Sergeant Carl D. SIEBRANDS, son of Mr. and Mrs. D.W. SIEBRANDS of Round Lake, has been decorated with the Distinguished Flying Cross, it was announced recently by the commanding general of the Eight Air Force at a bomber station in England. The citation which accompanied his decoration read: “For extraordinary achievement while serving as a top turret gunner-engineer on a B-17 Flying Fortress on a number of heavy bombardment missions over Germany and enemy occupied Europe. Displaying great courage and skill, Sergeant SIEBRANDS, fighting from his gun position has warded off many enemy attacks and has materially aided in the success of each of these missions. The courage, skill and coolness displayed by Sergeant Siebrands on all these occasions reflect the highest credit upon himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.” (c) Copyright: Colleen Fury Boose
