French DeGRASSE-DeGRACE researchers:
Antoni Pedro GRAS or Pedro Antoni GRAS who
came to New Brunswick from the Island of Majorca off the
coast of Spain at the end of the 18th century. Purportedly
Antoni changed his name to Antoine DeGRACE
around 1795 when he settled in Bathurst, New Brunswick while
working for a major lumber import/export business
He
married an Acadian, Angelique HACHE du GALLANT, and
had a very large family. Antoni's father was of
Majorca, while his mother, Magdalena PUJADES, was
from Barcelona. Antoine

Donat Robichaud of the Nicolas Denys Historical
Society has written an account of the DeGRACE
family (in French), which I've never seen, but that should
be available in major genealogy libraries or possibly on
film from Salt Lake City.

Pedro GRAS line.
Louis De
Grace, a descendant of Antoine DeGRACE, has
graciously provided his research
notes and a short
commentary on his numerous trips to Mallorca, Spain
for research on this line.
Another
researcher has advised
"There
are also references to DeGRACEs living in New
Brunswick as early as 1785, on Shediac Island, then not
too long afterward near Bathurst. The Atlantic
