My thanks to Jeff Duvall, Pascal Laparre and
[email protected]
who provided the following information. I will try to
continue with further research on both the ascendancy and
descendancy. If you can help, please e-mail
me (Mary Nichols).
Jeff Duvall
([email protected]) writes (bold, italics & caps
added):
There is a published lineage of Admiral de
GRASSE in Gary Boyd Roberts' The Royal Descents
of 500 Immigrants to the American Colonies or the United
States (Baltimore: Genealogical Publishing Co.,
1993), pp. 291-292.
The six generations of Admiral de Grasse's ancestors as
shown in the Roberts book:

François
Joseph Paul de GRASSE (1722-1788), Admiral,
Comte de GRASSE & Marquis de
Tilly
|
Roberts lists the following 2-vol. work as his
main source: Histoire de la Maison de
Grasse (1933), by the Marquis de Grasse and M.
Emile Isnard.
My interest in the de GRASSE family comes through
its connections to the de VILLENEUVES.
Mireille Genovesio
Zwirek wrote me about the Admiral. She writes in part
(order changed to make genealogy clear; bold & caps
added):
"I am one of his descendants.
My grandmother, Angèle de GRASSE,
married twice. Her first marriage was to a man whose
family name was AGAUD and her second marriage was
to Henri BARJAVEL. She had two children with
Henri, my mother Germaine and her brother
Henri. Henri BARJAVEL, now deceased, was a
well-known author in France.
My mother, Germaine BARJAVEL, . . . . was born
in Vandat, France, [and] remembers family stories
about the admiral. My mother married an Italian, Luigi
GENOVESIO. I am their eldest daughter,
Mireille, and was born in Le Havre, France in
1950."
I have written Mireille to clarify connection to the
Admiral, as I didn't/don't have an Angèle de
GRASSE in my information. I'll let you know what I find
out.

Notes
1 Per Family
History Center Online, François Joseph de
GRASSE, Le Comte de GRASSE & Marquis de Tilly was
born in Caraquet, New Brunswick. This is most unlikely.
Moreover it identifies his wife as Antoinette R.
ACCARON. At this time, I can't confirm or deny that she
was one of his wives.
2 Per www.gendex.com
indexed site (http://www.my-ged.com/db/page/grogan/2818),
a John GROCHAN m Adelle DeGRASSE. Wayne
Grogan said it was a SC marriage that matched the
Soundex for his GROGAN line and that he knew nothing
more.
3 [email protected]
writes that she is unsure from the published tree who was
the parent of 8 girls. Based on the above, I have connected
them to Auguste3
(François-Joseph2,
François1), until corrected.
4Family
History Center Online shows the birth and
this marriage as separate entries in the IGI.
