It is best to also check records in surrounding counties for your ancestors. Some of the reasons are: New counties divided out of old larger counties as the population grew. Many of Douglas County residents traveled to other counties for business and legal matters. Some records are there because they had family in that county and when they visited they stayed for long periods due to transportation, or a major life event would take place such as births, deaths, marriages. Another reason is a family lived on the edge of Douglas County and were closer to a larger town in the next county, and went there to register a vital event.
