William Brunson was the son of Joseph Brunson & Eliza Henry of Mercer County, PA. His birth was recorded in his father's bible: "William Brunson was born November 28th AD 1839" Iam told that his decendents went by BrOnson.
William and his brother Henry removed to Branch Co, MI along with their sister, Elizabeth w/o Thomas W Venetta. This line changed the spelling of their surname to BrOnson, but William's headstone is spelled like his father.
MILITARY - Civil War - Union Army
William enlisted in Co B, PA 55th Infantry Reg't on 27 Jun 1863 and mustered out on 26 Aug 1863.
He reenlisted in Co M, MI 6th Cavalry Reg't on 07 Apr 1865 at Coldwater, Branch Co, MI and mustered out on 17 Nov 1865.
He transferred to Co B, MI 1st Cavalry Reg't on 17 Nov 1865 and mustered out on 10 Mar 1866 at Salt Lake City, UT.
William was married to Rachel Emma Whitenight (1850–1923), on 9 May 1867 in Branch Co, MI (familysearch.org). She was the d/o Peter & Mary Whitenight of Hemlock, Columbia Co, Pennsylvania.
They were the parents of 12 known children:
