From the Kirksville Daily Express, Kirksville, Missouri, January 4, 1993: Owen Wood Reeves, 81, of Brashear, Missouri, passed away Sunday (January 3, 1993) at a Kirksville hospital. He was born on October 26, 1911 in Howard County, Missouri, the son of Charles Payne and Nancy Catherine Ewens Reeves. On October 28, 1930 in Colorado Springs, Colorado, he married Laura Lillian Hotchkiss and she preceded him in death on March 31, 1962. On November 10, 1965 in Chillicothe, Missouri he married Mary Beerbower and she survives. Also surviving are eight sons; Owen Reeves and his wife Nita of Belleville, Illinois, Harold Reeves of Brashear, Charles Reeves and his wife Paulette of Brashear, Tom Reeves and his wife Carolyn of Shepherdsville, Kentucky, Jerry Reeves and his wife Janice of Kirksville, David Reeves of Kansas City, Missouri, Matt Reeves and his wife Cheryl of Hurdland; Mark Reeves and his wife Suzi of Brashear, seven daughters; Mrs. Bill (Doris) Hettinger of Brashear, Mary Stansberry of Kirksville, Mrs. Larry (Naomi) Wagner of St. Charles, Missouri, Mrs. Charles (Bertha) Spencer of Tipton Missouri, Mrs. Garland (Sally) Robinson of LaPlata, Missouri. Mrs. Leo (Nancy) Hunolt of Brashear, Mrs. Francis (Dolly) Tonkinson of Hurdland, two step sons; Danny Shirley of Hurdland, Mike Shirley and his wife Carol of Brashear, one step daughter Mrs. Jerry (Sandy) Muir of Kirksville, 50 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, one brother Woodrow Reeves, of Centralia and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son Stanley Reeves, three granddaughters, four brothers, and three sisters. Owen was raised in Howard County, where he attended schools, and had also attended high school in Kirksville. He worked for some time in the coal mines in Colorado, and during World War II he worked on the pipe line in the Yukon territory. Owen was engaged in farming in the Brashear and Hurdland communities since 1937, from 1950 to 1956 he worked for the Miller Trucking in Brashear, and for over 39 years had been employed by the United States Postal Service as a rural mail carrier retiring August 1, 1992. He was a member of the Rural Carriers Association and a member of the United Methodist Church in Brashear, Missouri. Funeral services will be held Tuesday (January 5, 1993) at 2:00 P.M. in the Hudson-Rimer Park View Chapel in Kirksville. The Reverend Virgil Clow of Brashear will officiate the services assisted by the Reverend Beryl Cragg of Kahoka, Missouri, and the Reverend Orville Shriver of LaPlata, Missouri. Burial will be in Park View Memorial Gardens in Kirksville. Music will be provided by Margie Barker, Barbara Beerbower and Donna Sorenson. Selections will be "One Day at a Time", and "Sheltered in the Arms of God". Casket bearers will be Raymond Salter, Robert Magruder, James Helton, Charles Baker, Donald Beach and Howard Hughes. Honorary bearers will be Richard Hughes, Wesley Spiker, Robert Wilson, Roger Thompson, and Daren Miller. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 9:00 P.M. Monday and until time of services on Tuesday with the family receiving friends from 7:00 to 9:00 P.M. Monday evening at Hudson-Rimer funeral Homes Park View Chapel, Kirksville, Missouri. An expression of sympathy in memory of Mr. Reeves may be made to the Brashear United Methodist Church. The memorials may be left at or mailed to the Hudson-Rimer park View Chapel, Route 4, Box 2, Kirksville, Missouri 63501.
