FORMER DALLAS COTTON MAN ACCIDENTALLY SHOT AT CARLSBAD, N.M.

CARLSBAD, N. M., March 25.-- Louis C. Leftwich, a leading cotton buyer of the Pecos Valley, formerly of Dallas, died this morning at 6 o'clock as a result of an accidental shooting Friday afternoon.

Mr. Leftwich was preparing to go fishing with another cotton buyer and in getting some fishing tackle off a shelf in the sleeping porch pulled off a pistol, which was entangled in the fishing lines. The gun caught on a lower shelf and was discharged, the shot passing through the abdomen.

Mr. Leftwich was taken to St. Francis Hospital, where an operation was performed.

A Masonic service was held this afternoon before the body was taken to Dallas for burial.

Mr. Leftwich was a 32° Mason and a Shriner. His brother, Will Leftwich, manager of the Southland Hotel in Dallas, and Mrs. Leftwich's sister, also of Dallas, are here and accompanied the body to Dallas.
