Linda Richard Abadie
Abadie, Linda Richard An early-childhood development teacher at St. Aloysius Catholic School and a resident and native of Baton Rouge, she died at 11:45 p.m. Monday, Jan. 17, 2005, at Tulane Medical Center, New Orleans. She was 49. Visiting was at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St., from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 20. Visiting at St. Aloysius Catholic Church from 9:30 a.m. until religious service at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 21, conducted by the Rev. Gerald Burns. Entombment in St. George Mausoleum. She is survived by her husband, Christopher David Abadie; father and mother, Oscar and Billie Richard, Baton Rouge; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Leo and Lois Abadie, Baton Rouge; two daughters, Ellen Sinclair Abadie and Kelly Margaret Abadie; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Kathleen Richard Callaghan and John Broussard, Baton Rouge, Donna Richard Rainone and Michael Rainone, Palestine, Texas, and Kelly Richard Brown and James Brown, New Orleans; a brother and sister-in-law, Reed and Lori Richard, Baton Rouge; three sisters-in-law and their husbands, JoEllyn Abadie Gallmann and Bill Gallmann, Shreveport, Jean Abadie Dugas and Robert Dugas, Lincoln, Neb., and Carolyn Abadie Landry and Richard Landry, Baton Rouge; a brother-in-law, Buddy Abadie Jr. and his wife, Bernie, Walker; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Oscar Gabriel Richard Jr. and Abigail Callaghan Richard; maternal grandparents, Herman Keel Gathright and Halsie Chilton Gathright; and nephew, William David Brown. Pallbearers will be William Gallmann Jr., Richard Dugas, Robert Rainone, James Brown, Benjamin Brown, Robert Dugas, Max Magbee, Raymond Rainone and Michael Abadie. Everyone remembers Linda as the adorable little freckle-faced girl who laughed easily and enjoyed every moment of her life. Even as an adult, she never lost her pixielike quality and people were always attracted to her because she was fun, interesting and smart. She never sought to be the center of attention. Instead, she was always focused on others, especially her own family, whom she loved dearly. Linda was a 1973 graduate of University High School in Baton Rouge and a 1977 graduate of the LSU School of Journalism. After working as a publications editor for both LSU and Coastal Environments Inc., Linda found her true vocation in shaping children's lives. She was not only devoted to her own two precious daughters, Ellen and Kelly, but she also dedicated her life to the children at St. Aloysius pre-school. She especially enjoyed teaching religion to the kindergarten class. Linda truly loved each child with whom she came in contact, and they in turn loved her deeply. She touched many lives and will be greatly missed. The entire community has been so helpful. Heartfelt thanks go to Louisiana Transportation Resource Center, Coastal Environments, YMCA and especially, St. Aloysius clergy, staff, faculty, Knights of Columbus and parishioners, whose prayers and acts of love are too numerous to name. And finally, the family wishes to thank the entire medical staff at Tulane University Medical Center, New Orleans, and the staff of The Blood Center.
