Notes for William Quarles Reeves

Palestine, Tex., Aug. 14 – The funeral of Judge Willie Quarles Reeves was largely attended. The Palestine bar and court officers attended in a body. Judge Reeves was 39 years, 5 months and 27 days old. He has been a leading attorney in this county for fifteen years and was elected judge f the Third Judicial district in 1892. In 1882-84 he was county attorney and in 1890 served in the city council as alderman from the First ward. His father, Judge Reuben Reeves, was district judge just after the war and during reconstruction was removed as an impediment thereto, being the only reason assigned by the military government for his dismissal. He was afterward elected associate justice of the state supreme court and served his term with great ability and distinction. In 1884 he was appointed judge of the supreme court of the territory of New Mexico by President Cleveland. In the death of Hon. W.Q. Reeves the bar of Texas has lost one of its brightest members and Palestine and Anderson county a good citizen. He was always honest, just, charitable and kind and possessed many traits of character so admirable that he was honored and beloved by all who knew him. He leaves a wife and two children and a host of friends to mourn his loss. Galveston Daily News, 15 August 1893, page 2

I am using the birth and death dates from his gravestone, which can be seen on Find A Grave (listing for William Quarles Reeves). They give an age of 38 years rather than 39 years as in the above obituary. I don't know which one is really correct.
